Weißensee offers visitors a range of ways to spend time cycling or by the water. When planning your trip, you can choose from cycling routes with different destinations, water sports and the swimming area. This helps you narrow down the focus of your trip before looking for hotels in Weißensee.

Cycling Routes from Weißensee

Several cycling routes start in Weißensee. The Four-Lakes Circuit is 9.2 kilometers long. A 13.7-kilometer route leads to the ruins of Eisenberg and Hohenfreyberg castles; longer routes connect Weißensee with Hopfensee. This lets you choose between a shorter loop, a ride to two castle ruins and longer connections. If the route is important to your plans, check it before setting off: surfaces and trail signage may change.

Water Sports and Swimming Area

Water activities at Weißensee include windsurfing, stand-up paddleboarding and fishing. The windsurfing meeting point is below St. Walburga. A permit is required for fishing. Before your visit, check any permits, rental options and access rules relevant to your activity.

The swimming area has a gently sloping shore, a kiosk, a playground, a water play area and an exercise trail. SUP rental is also available. You can combine time by the shore with play, exercise or paddling. Facilities and rentals may vary by season; check availability in advance.

Culture in the Wider Füssen Destination

The wider Füssen destination offers further cultural highlights. Füssen’s old town has medieval lanes, an old town wall, Baroque churches and monasteries, as well as the High Castle. It is known for its late medieval illusion paintings on the courtyard facades and is one of the most significant secular buildings of the German Late Gothic period.

Numerous ceiling frescoes in the parish church of St. Mang depict scenes from the life of Saint Magnus. Regular church tours include the carved choir stalls, the Jäger organ dating from 1703, the crypt and the burial vault. As tour offerings and dates may change, check the current schedule before your visit.

The former Benedictine monastery of St. Mang is a Baroque complex and is among Germany’s nationally significant cultural monuments. The former monastery houses the Museum of the Town of Füssen, which displays historic lutes and violins. Check current visitor information separately.

Hopfen am See: Lakeside Loop and Shore

Hopfen am See is a district of Füssen. A designated nature reserve with rare plants and nesting sites for waterbirds stretches around Lake Hopfen. These include great crested grebes, coots, wild ducks and grey herons.

The flat Hopfensee circular trail is about seven kilometers long. Allow 1.5 to 2 hours for a leisurely walk. Its length, flat terrain and estimated time provide a practical guide for planning. Local boat rental businesses along the lakeside promenade rent out rowboats and pedal boats, stand-up paddleboards and kayaks; availability and operating arrangements may change.

Above Lake Hopfen, the remains of the castle ruins are considered the oldest surviving stone castle in the Allgäu. In the wider Füssen destination, nature, trails and architectural history sit alongside the cycling and water activities in Weißensee.
