Ebermannsdorf: Trails and History
Accommodation in Ebermannsdorf
Ebermannsdorf offers a range of points of interest to help you plan your trip: the family-friendly Weg der Generationen walking trail, the Erzweg trail that runs through the town, and historic local landmarks.
Trails and Historic Sites in Ebermannsdorf
The municipality created the Weg der Generationen in 2010 as a family-friendly walking trail. The Erzweg has a different character: it runs through Ebermannsdorf and has been awarded the German Hiking Association’s quality trail designation. From the Berggasthof, you can follow it in the direction of Amberg; in the Wiegental, you can start along it in the direction of Kastl. This means two different starting points and directions are described for the Erzweg, while the Weg der Generationen is designated as a walking trail.
Ebermannsdorf Castle can be seen as you drive through the town. It is still inhabited and is not open to visitors. Next to Meilerplatz is a field of replica burial mounds. It illustrates how people’s ancestors once buried their dead. The castle can thus be viewed as you drive past, while the burial mounds offer an insight into earlier burial practices.
Amberg-Sulzbach: Landscape, Culture and Activities
The Amberg-Sulzbacher Land, part of the wider Amberg-Sulzbach destination, lies between Regensburg and Nuremberg. Its landscape features imposing limestone cliffs, gentle Jurassic hills, extensive forests, and picturesque river valleys. The regional Erzweg trail links sites with a mining tradition spanning more than 1,000 years and passes through cultural and natural landscapes. The East Bavarian Mining and Industry Museum in Kultur-Schloss Theuern researches and documents mining and industry in eastern Bavaria, keeping their history alive.
A range of routes for hiking are described in the Amberg-Sulzbacher Land. The Felsenweg leads from Sackdilling through the Felsenlabyrinth to the Bauernlöcher and across an impressive rocky landscape. The hike is 2.7 kilometers long and takes about 45 minutes. At the Bow Vision 3D course near Wolfertsfeld, you can try traditional archery on a circular route of around three kilometers through the farm woodland typical of the Upper Palatinate Jura. The route lengths and walking time give you a concrete sense of scale for these two different activities.
Water and wildlife watching are also among the regional activities. The Vils can be paddled by canoe from Hahnbach, passing unspoiled stretches of river, castles, and historic Amberg. The Theuern nature observation platform was built on the edge of the settling ponds at the Theuern wastewater treatment plant. The adjacent wetland, with the Vils, oxbow lakes, and ponds, is a year-round resting and breeding site for native birds and birds arriving from the north.
Kirwan are among the region’s cultural traditions. They are celebrated every year in their respective towns and are open to visitors and locals alike; since 2023, they have been part of Bavaria’s intangible cultural heritage. Many restaurants in the Amberg-Sulzbacher Land regularly serve the traditional Schlachtschüssel. Dishes include Wurschtsuppn, Kesselfleisch, and blood sausages, liver sausages, and bratwursts made using the restaurants’ own recipes. Dates vary by restaurant.
When visiting regional cave trails, observe the seasonal rule: entering the caves is prohibited from October 1 to March 31.
