Aufham offers several clearly distinct themes to consider when planning your trip: the heated Staufenbad outdoor swimming pool, hiking routes with named starting points, and the parish church of St. James, associated with the Salt Road and the Way of St. James.

Outdoor Swimming and Hiking in Aufham

Staufenbad Aufham–Anger is a heated outdoor swimming pool with a large sunbathing lawn. Facilities include a non-swimmer pool and a wide-wave slide. If you are planning a visit to the pool, check its seasonal opening hours.

The easy Aufham–Piding Valley Loop is a 9.1 km circular trail. It starts at the village square in Aufham and follows the Panorama Trail as well as forest roads and woodland paths.

The Steiner Alm hiking route via Aufham (Hänggraben) starts at Staufenbad in Aufham; the return route follows forest roads and woodland paths along the Aufhamer Bach stream. The starting points distinguish the two routes: the village square for the valley loop and Staufenbad for the route to Steiner Alm. Trail conditions can change, so check them before setting out.

The Way of St. James and the Maypole

The parish church of St. James is associated with the Salt Road and the Way of St. James. James, patron saint of pilgrims, gave the church its name; at the same time, the Way of St. James has a defining significance for Aufham. Together, the church's dedication and its connection to the route offer a tangible way to explore local pilgrimage history.

In Anger and Aufham, the raising of the maypole is celebrated every year on 1 May. If you plan to travel around this date, check the specific event details, as individual celebrations may vary.

In the Anger destination, the Hans-Peter Porsche TraumWerk showcases several themes relating to model railways and toys. The TraumWerk also represents technology, design and tradition. The model railway layout covers 400 m², depicts landscapes from Germany, Austria and Switzerland, and is traversed by more than 200 trains. A historic tin toy collection comprises more than 2,100 exhibits dating from 1860 to 1930. The amusement park includes an adventure playground and a miniature railway that runs through a 20,000 m² garden. The layout focuses on model railway landscapes and trains, while the collection focuses on historic tin toys.

Anger is also home to the Romanesque hall church of St. George on the Steinhögl. It was built in the mid-14th century on the site of a castle chapel; ashlar stones from Roman or medieval building remains were used in its construction. Ashlar stones are dressed, rectangular building blocks.

The Vachenlueg pilgrimage chapel is located near Anger. After the roof truss collapsed in 1824, the shrine containing the miraculous image remained undamaged; pilgrimages to Vachenlueg subsequently increased. The chapel was completed in 1848.

Also in the Anger destination, a circular trail leads around Lake Höglwörth. The walk takes about half an hour; the path is flat and wide and is suitable for a stroll with a pushchair.
