Lohberg offers activities available at different times of the year: the Bayerwald Wildlife Park is open daily year-round, the Kleine Arbersee railway runs seasonally, and the natural swimming pond is a summer attraction. There are also trails for hikers and cyclists, as well as an annual church feast day. When planning your stay, you can first decide which experiences you want to focus on.

Bayerwald Wildlife Park and a ride to the Kleine Arbersee

The Bayerwald Wildlife Park in Lohberg is home to around 400 animals from 100 species. An easy-to-walk circular trail leads past the animals; along the way, you can learn about their way of life and about species conservation, breeding and research. This brings wildlife watching together with topics related to the protection and study of species. The park’s daily, year-round opening sets it apart from Lohberg’s seasonal attractions.

The Kleine Arbersee railway runs daily from May to the end of October, from the Bayerwald Wildlife Park in Lohberghütte to the Kleine Arbersee in the nature reserve. The lake is at an altitude of 912 metres. Check local timetable information before your trip. For planning purposes, the railway’s operating season is the key consideration; the wildlife park, by contrast, is open daily year-round.

Hiking trails, cycle route and Celtic tree-sign circle

Lohberg has eight designated hiking trails, three themed trails and four ridge trails. A connecting trail to the Goldsteig leads from the Hohenbogen via the Osser and Lohberg town centre directly to the Kleine Arber. The Lamer Winkel–Arber cycle route also passes through Lohberg, giving cyclists a route that links directly to the municipality.

Behind the Lohberger Dorfstadl are 22 trees from the Celtic tree-sign circle. Each tree has an information board; you can find the tree associated with you based on your birthday. This gives the tree circle a personal connection: your birthday helps you identify the information relating to a particular tree. Together with the different hiking trail categories and the cycle route, this attraction shows the variety of activities available in Lohberg.

Summer attraction and annual feast day

The Huber Weiher natural swimming pond is in the town centre. During the summer months, it offers free, nature-oriented swimming. As this is a seasonal attraction, check local conditions before your visit. Every year on 1 May, the patronal feast of the parish church of St. Walburga is celebrated with a festive church service, followed by a market. Its fixed date and annual recurrence distinguish this occasion from the swimming attraction, which is limited to the summer months.
