Discover Plech
Accommodation in Plech
Plech can be explored through several distinct themes: circular hiking trails lead to rocks and caves, cycling routes are mapped around the town, and there is also a camera museum and historic church architecture. When choosing a hotel in Plech, it is therefore helpful to consider in advance whether your trip will focus more on trails through the countryside, a specific cultural destination, or a mix of both.
Hiking and caves around Plech
Plech has a variety of circular hiking trails, including the KulturLandschaftsweg, the Plecher Höhlenweg and the Jubiläumstour. The Plecher Höhlenrundweg is particularly scenic: it passes through forests and meadow valleys, by rock formations and partly accessible caves. The trail is about 13 kilometres long; without the detour to Geißloch Cave, it is about 8 kilometres. These approximate distances make it possible to compare the route with and without the detour.
GeiĂźloch Cave is closed from 1 October through 31 March to protect the bats. Check current notices before planning a visit; take the closure period into account when deciding whether to choose the version with the cave detour.
Climbing and cycling
Plech has numerous rocks with climbing routes of all difficulty levels. Check for local restrictions before climbing. If you include hiking and climbing in your trip plans, consider climbing notices separately from your choice of hiking trail.
Three circular cycling routes are described around Plech. One goes via Eckenreuth, Hunger and Mergners and through the Veldensteiner Forst. A second runs through the forest, passing Kammerweiher and RuĂźhĂĽtte. The third connects Plech with Hohenstein and returns to Plech. The named places and waypoints give you a concrete basis for choosing your route. Check local route notices before setting off.
Museum and church architecture
The German Camera Museum in Plech complements its collection with courses, workshops, photo exhibitions and camera fairs. These events offer different experiences: courses and workshops sit alongside exhibitions and fairs focused on cameras. If you are coming specifically for a course, workshop or camera fair, check the dates in advance.
Another cultural destination is the parish church of St. Susannae. During its construction from 1779 to 1782, the imposing fortified church tower from the Hussite era, with its loopholes, was incorporated into the building; it still stands today. The building shows how an older fortified tower was integrated into a later church.
Nature trail and bee-watching
A leisure and activity area with a small park, nature trail and educational apiary is located in the Schönthal industrial estate in Plech. Visitors can watch bees at work through the glass panes of an observation hive. The focus here is on the nature trail and a look at the bees at work—a different theme from caves, rock formations and routes. The activities described thus combine nature observation, exercise and culture as different options to consider when planning a trip.
