Culture and events
The Gersthofen Balloon Museum presents the history of ballooning with interactive installations, original exhibits and walk-in replicas. Every two years, it holds children’s culture days. Tours can be booked in advance at any time.

Its program includes comedy and cabaret, concerts ranging from classical music to jazz, as well as pop, funk and medieval rock; there are also magic acts, shows, theater and dance. Around 200 events are held each year at the Stadthalle and its affiliated venues. The season program also includes family theater and children’s musicals. If you plan to visit Gersthofen for a particular date, check the event details in the current program.
The Gersthofen waterworks are another point of cultural interest. They are one of 22 sites in the Augsburg Water Management System, which was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2019.
Nature, paths and views
Gersthofen is located right on the Lech and offers recreational areas there. There are cycling and hiking trails along the Lech in Gersthofen for walkers and recreational athletes. This means you can enjoy both a walk and routes to explore by bike. Gersthofen is also part of the Western Forests Nature Park.
Monte Scherbelino combines hiking with scenic views: there are three hiking trails there. In good weather, the viewpoint offers the best views of the Lech floodplains, Augsburg and the entire region. The Jungle Trail in Gersthofen is also ideal for hiking; it opened in 2016. If you enjoy a scenic view while hiking, Monte Scherbelino is worth considering; the Jungle Trail is another hiking option.
Cycling enthusiasts can also visit the Gersthofen Nature Friends’ bike park, which has trails, jump lines and a pump track. Please note the access restriction: the bike park is available to members of the Gersthofen Nature Friends at all times. The paths along the Lech and the bike park are therefore different options; access to the bike park is expressly limited to members.
