Discover Ainring: Moorland, Trails and Culture
Accommodation in Ainring
Ainring offers a variety of options for a stay: Ainringer Moos, two circular moorland trails with specific distances and walking times, the adventure pool, and cultural attractions such as the open-air theater. If you’re looking for a hotel in Ainring, you can choose where to stay based on your travel interests. Natural landscapes, trail distances, leisure activities and culture each offer a different focus.
Ainringer Moos: Location, History and Habitat
Ainringer Moos lies between Ainring and Thundorf, at the foot of the Högl and alongside the old Roman and Salt Road. After being used for industrial purposes, it was restored to a natural state in 2003. It provides a habitat for animal and plant species, including some that are extremely rare. The moor’s location and history of use give it a distinctive character: the landscape can be understood both in terms of its setting and its transformation from industrial use to restoration.
Moorland Circular Trails by Distance and Walking Time
If you’re planning around distance and time, you can compare the two trails directly. The Kleine Moos-Rundweg is 3.26 kilometers long and takes about 50 minutes on foot. The Große Moos-Rundweg covers 6.43 kilometers and takes about one hour and 40 minutes. The difference is 3.17 kilometers and approximately 50 minutes. This lets you compare the stated distances and plan for the approximate walking time. If the route changes, its length and walking time may also change.
The KugelmĂĽhle and Kreuzweg: Local Trail History
The Ainring Kugelmühle is part of the Ainring St. Francis Trail. An important component of many Salzburg Kugelmühlen was the so-called Schleifer, the lower part. It came from Ainring and was made of Högl sandstone.
The Ainring Kreuzweg also follows an older route. It runs along a former church path that worshippers used to climb to the parish church of the time on the Ulrichshögl. The path begins at St. Laurentius in Ainring. The present-day Kreuzweg and its former purpose can thus be understood together; the Ulrichshögl was the church path’s destination at the time.
Ainring Open-Air Theater
The Ainring open-air theater regularly hosts plays, concerts, early-morning get-togethers, and performances of all kinds. The audience seating is laid out in a semicircle using local natural stone, reminiscent of an ancient amphitheater. Both the recurring types of events and the design of the seating shape the theater’s character. If you’d like to include an event in your travel plans, check the specific dates for your stay.
