Bad Steben combines thermal baths and Kneipp facilities with a spa park, churches, a museum and two trails with different focuses. When planning a stay, it helps to distinguish between these highlights: the thermal baths and Kneipp facility offer water-based activities and wellness, while the trails focus on different types of exercise. Architectural and cultural history round out the town’s character. This makes it easier to choose a hotel based on what you want to experience in Bad Steben.

Thermal Baths and Kneipp Facilities

Covering more than 8,500 m², the thermal baths at the Bad Steben state spa offer a variety of aquatic worlds, a spacious sauna area and a wellness dome with medical wellness bathing experiences. Wellness is therefore a clear focus among the town’s offerings. As facility details can change, check the thermal baths’ current range of services before your visit.

Another Kneipp facility is located in Ludwig MĂĽller Park on FriedrichstraĂźe. The covered facility is open to the public and includes a walking pool and two arm basins. Check the current conditions here before visiting, too.

Trails with Different Focuses

The health hiking trail is a circular route about 10 kilometres long, with 11 stations. It starts in Bad Steben Spa Park and passes through Schöne Aussicht, Steinbach and Seifengrund before returning to Bad Steben. Exercises at the stations include stair rocking, tree-supported exercises and balancing on pine cones; the route also features a natural Kneipp pool. Its length, route and stations give the circular trail a specific exercise profile.

A geological and mining heritage trail leads from Bad Steben to Blechschmidtenhammer. Along the way, 17 information boards tell the story of more than 1,000 years of mining in the region. When planning, you can distinguish between the two trails by their routes: the health hiking trail returns to Bad Steben, while the heritage trail leads to Blechschmidtenhammer.

Spa Park and Architectural History

The spa park covers 40 hectares and is protected as a historic monument, along with its colonnaded hall. The semi-open hall, with its large arched openings, has shaped the park since 1910. The park’s size and this specific historic building together offer a way to understand Bad Steben through its park architecture.

The churches also offer contrasting architectural features. St. Walburga’s fortified church took its present form around 1500 and is one of the oldest buildings in the Franconian Forest. The Luther Church was built in 1910 using an open reinforced-concrete construction method and is one of the few Art Nouveau churches in Germany. St. Walburga is notable for its present-day form and age, while the Luther Church stands out for its construction method and rarity within Germany.

Museum and Casino

The Graphic Arts Museum in the Bad Steben spa house is also part of the town’s cultural history. Stefanie Barbara and Dr. h. c. Wolfgang Schreiner opened it in June 1994. Its opening date and location make the museum a distinct part of a stay, alongside the churches and park architecture.

The Bad Steben casino offers American roulette at three tables, blackjack at one table and more than 70 gaming machines, including multi-roulette. The games on offer can change; check current operating details directly with the casino.

Find a Hotel to Suit Your Stay

If you’re looking for a hotel in Bad Steben, your planned focus can help guide your choice: the thermal baths are all about wellness, the trails offer exercise and mining history, and the spa park, churches and graphic arts museum offer architecture and culture. Consider which of these themes matter to you during your stay. Then compare specific hotel offers by location, services and availability to find the right fit for your needs.
