Gosberg: Church, Historic Buildings and Village History
Accommodation in Gosberg
Visitors choosing Gosberg as a destination will find a village with historic architecture and an active irrigation association. The buildings along Gosberger Straße, the church and the village’s history give the place its distinctive character.
Church and Historic Architectural Styles
The Catholic branch church of the Most Holy Trinity at Gosberger Straße 6 is a hall church with a narrower, polygonal-ended choir and a west tower. Local history dates the construction of the church, dedicated to the Most Holy Trinity and Saint Andrew, in the center of the village to 1717. A recessed choir is narrower than the nave; a polygonal end has several sides. These terms therefore describe different parts and forms of the church building.
An excerpt from the Bavarian monument list dated July 19, 2025, describes several other buildings. The imposing farmhouse at Gosberger Straße 5 is a two-story ashlar sandstone building with a mansard hipped roof and a street-facing cross gable shaped as a triangular gable. It dates from the Late Baroque period, around 1770/80, and retains historic fittings. A mansard hipped roof has a sloping roof surface with a break in its pitch and hipped ends; the cross gable stands perpendicular to the main roof surface. These features distinguish the house’s roof form from its street-facing gable.
The two half-timbered barns differ in roof form and date: at Gosberger Straße 8 stands an imposing barn with a half-hipped roof and lean-to roofs, dated 1783; the property at Gosberger Straße 10 includes a gabled-roof building with a lean-to roof from the 18th century. At Gosberger Straße 31, at the eastern edge of the village, stands a wayside shrine dating from the 17th century. The sandstone column is by the garden fence at that house number, near the turnoff to the cemetery.
Village Structure and Water Management
Gosberg retains its basic rural village structure. The active irrigation association is connected to the Schwedengraben and two weirs. When planning your trip, you can choose between two different interests: architectural history focuses on the church and historic buildings, while water management offers another perspective on local village and landscape history.
Getting There and Regional Hiking
Gosberg has a railway connection and can be reached by road via the Forchheim-Süd exit. If you travel by train, check the service for your travel date; if you drive, you can use the named exit as a reference point when planning your route.
In the wider destination of Pinzberg, a hiking trail runs from Gosberg via Pinzberg and Schlaifhausen, across the Walberla, to Kirchehrenbach. Also in Pinzberg, the peace pilgrimage of the soldiers’ comradeship associations of Forchheim district to the Virgin Mary at Lohranger has been a tradition since 1989; it takes place on the first Sunday in August.
