Streitberg: Bing Cave, Castle Ruins and Nature
Accommodation in Streitberg
Streitberg combines a show cave with medieval history, viewpoints and water-related attractions. Together with Muggendorf, Streitberg is one of the two oldest climatic health resorts in Franconian Switzerland. Bing Cave and the ruins of Streitburg offer different highlights: underground, the focus is on stalactite formations; above ground, on history and views over the Wiesent Valley.
Bing Cave: Stalactite Formations and Cool Conditions
Bing Cave in Streitberg is a show cave with a route almost 300 metres long, passing atmospheric illuminated stalactite formations. After a short briefing by trained staff, you can explore the cave on your own. The temperature inside is 9°C year-round, so expect cooler conditions during your visit to the cave. Allow time for both the briefing and the subsequent exploration when planning your day.
Streitburg and Viewpoints
The ruins of Streitburg lie above the village and include the dungeon. In the past, the castle was one of the most significant medieval fortifications in all of Franconian Switzerland. From the viewpoint at the ruins, you can see across the Wiesent Valley to the Neideck castle ruins on the opposite side. The historic Prinz-Rupprecht Pavilion is also located above Streitberg and is a popular viewpoint in the Wiesent Valley.
Kneipp Facility and Muschelquelle Spring
The Kneipp facility in Streitberg has a traditional water-treading pool designed according to Sebastian Kneipp’s principles. Muschelquelle Spring is easily reached from the village centre via a short path. Its small stream is an inviting place for children to play.
