Historic Buildings and Museums in Several Towns

Ochsenfurt and Röttingen offer historic architecture from different periods. Ochsenfurt’s old town is surrounded by an almost complete fortification system with numerous town gates and towers. The New Town Hall dates from the 15th century; its Lanzentürmchen tower houses a figurine and lunar clock. In Röttingen, the oldest parts of Brattenstein Castle date back to the 12th and 13th centuries. The castle was home to various noble families, including the Lords of Hohenlohe. Landscapes, Wine and Activities in Würzburg

The Main riverbank promenade in Veitshöchheim and the Eternal Garden in Erlabrunn showcase different types of landscaped open spaces. Sculptures by various artists stand in the green spaces of the Main riverbank promenade in Veitshöchheim. There is also a large adventure playground with equipment for all age groups, including a trampoline and climbing wall, as well as a barefoot path and a Kneipp footbath for water-treading. In Erlabrunn, the Eternal Garden is planted exclusively with native species from the dry habitats of the Main-Franconian shell limestone region. The garden lies on the Main Cycle Route north of the tennis courts and can be reached on foot or by bicycle.

Wine-related themes are also explored in several places. In Siegelswäldchen above Sommerhausen’s vineyards, life-size works by seven artists on the theme of winegrowers are displayed in a sculpture park. On Kapellenberg in Frickenhausen, three massive shell limestone blocks form an “altar,” where wine tastings are held outdoors, among other events. In Thüngersheim, a place of wonder on Johannisberg follows the theme “Wine and Mythology – Wine is Divine!”; a second site in the Scharlachberg vineyard area explores the theme “Wine & Science – Wine Inspires.” The examples therefore range from sculptures and tastings to themed stops.

Seasonal Boat Trips and Finding Hotels

The Nixe ferry in Ochsenfurt’s old town offers regular circular and ferry trips on the Main from May to October. Excursion boats operated by the “White Fleet” run several times a day between Veitshöchheim and Würzburg from April to October.
