Wang offers several distinct points of interest for planning a trip: Isareck Castle, the late Gothic branch church of St. John the Baptist, cycling routes, and a circular hiking trail. If you are looking for a hotel in Wang, you can decide what to focus on during your stay: architectural history, a hike, or a connection to the Isar Cycle Route. These themes differ both in historical period and in the type of route.

Isareck Castle and St. John the Baptist

Isareck Castle was built between 1559 and 1570 for Duke Albrecht V by Asmus Hälmayr as a four-wing complex. The complex includes the Chapel of St. George and a 19th-century English-style castle park. The castle lies between Volkmannsdorf and Wang, on a hill above the steep slopes of the Isar at the confluence of the Isar and Amper rivers; it is privately owned.

The Catholic branch church of St. John the Baptist in Wang is a late Gothic hall church with a recessed polygonal choir and a flanking tower. The choir's roof structure dates from 1430 to 1433, and the nave's from 1457/58; the cemetery wall is medieval. This brings together different periods: the castle's construction in the 16th century and medieval features of the church. For architecture enthusiasts, the architectural forms and dated structural elements offer two different ways to explore the history of the town.

Hiking and Cycling Around Wang

The circular hiking trail runs from Wang via former salt roads, vineyards, the battlefield of the 1313 Battle of Gammelsdorf, and prehistoric settlements along the Isar and Amper rivers to Volkmannsdorf near Moosburg an der Isar. The Isar and Amper meet there. On the return to Wang, the trail passes Isareck Castle. The loop thus combines historical traces, river landscapes, and the castle along a single route. Check local trail conditions before setting out.

For cyclists, a roughly six-kilometre variant of the Ammer-Amper Cycle Route runs north of Moosburg an der Isar via Wang to the Isar Cycle Route. The two options offer different ways to explore the area: the circular hiking trail passes historical and scenic points of interest on foot, while the cycling variant connects Wang with the Isar Cycle Route and is about six kilometres long. Check current route information before setting off.

Freising as a Wider Travel Destination

In the wider Freising travel region, the Ampertal in Freising district is designated a landscape conservation area and is used for hiking and cycling. It is home to numerous particularly endangered animal and plant species, including four of the 16 dragonfly species threatened with extinction in Bavaria. This regional perspective on nature complements Wang's architectural history and routes without attributing the Ampertal's features to the town itself.
