When traveling to Bundorf, you can plan local destinations and attractions in the Haßberge travel region separately. Locally, the Schweinshaupten swimming lake, an adventure trail, a biotope landscape and a day-trip destination are the main highlights. In the Haßberge travel region, extensive hiking trails and landscape and cultural themes are among the regional attractions. If you are looking for a hotel for your trip, this distinction can help you decide whether individual destinations in Bundorf or longer regional routes will shape your stay.

Lake and Adventure Trail in Schweinshaupten

The Schweinshaupten swimming lake is accessible by car, with parking available on site. The lake can also be reached by public bus via the ZOB in Bad Königshofen or the VGN station in Haßfurt. If you are traveling by bus, check the relevant connection and departure times before setting off.

The “NATUR trifft KULTUR” (NATURE MEETS CULTURE) adventure trail starts in Schweinshaupten and partly follows the historic Wine Route. The trail and the lake offer different points of reference for planning your day: at the lake, the focus is on getting there and parking; on the trail, it is on the route and its connection to the historic road.

Biotope and Day-Trip Destination

A picturesque biotope landscape with a restored stream lies at Höllgraben near Kimmelsbach. The Jewish Cemetery in Schweinshaupten is another day-trip destination. Check the current access arrangements before visiting.

Hiking and Culture in the Haßberge

In the wider Haßberge travel region, the nature park is a gently hilly low-mountain landscape with extensive mixed forests, fields and meadows, historic vineyards and varied terrain. The hiking trails also differ in format: the adventure trails in the Haßberge Nature Park are half-day or full-day hikes and are circular routes that return to their starting point. The Burgen- & Schlösserwanderweg (Castles & Palaces Hiking Trail) is a 190-kilometer long-distance hiking trail through the German Castle Corner. The Amtsbotenweg crosses the Haßberge ridge from one side to the other, from Altenstein to Königsberg. This makes it easy to distinguish circular routes designed for a day’s hike from a long-distance trail and a ridge crossing with named endpoints.

The Schwedenschanze observation tower stands atop a 487 m-high summit on the Haßberge ridge and offers expansive views across mixed forest towards the Grabfeld, as well as towards the distant heights of the Rhön to the northwest and Thuringia to the north. The Schwedenschanze is also a ring-wall complex dating from the Hallstatt period; Bettenburg is considered a landmark of the Haßberge.

The regional cultural offerings also include the railway museum in Hofheim station. It presents the history and technology of the Haßfurt–Hofheim local railway. Advance registration is required to visit the indoor spaces; tours are available by appointment by calling 0 95 23 / 13 05. Check the date before setting off.
