Discover Rehau: Cycling Routes and Culture
Accommodation in Rehau
Rehau offers several different starting points for planning a trip: a cycling route, themed trails, a museum centre and historical landmarks. If you are looking for a hotel for your stay, you can first decide whether cycling and trails or cultural and historical sites should be the main focus. The specific route information, themes and historical details offer different points of reference for planning.
Trails and activities in Rehau
The Eulenweg begins beside the railway underpass on the country road between the Rehau districts of Fohrenreuth and Eulenhammer. It can be reached by bicycle via the Perlenroute. The Perlenroute is 27 km long in total and runs from Oberkotzau through Rehau, Schönwald and Selb to Asch. For planning purposes, it is important to note that the 27 km refers to the Perlenroute, not the Eulenweg.
The Franzosengräber themed trail offers two approximate route lengths. Starting from the car park on the HO 4 district road, the trail is about 3.3 km long; with the return journey via a forest path, the route is about 6.5 km. The longer distance therefore includes the return route described. The trail was created to mark the 200th anniversary of the Franzosengräber in Rehau. The distance and historical occasion offer two different points of reference for planning an outing.
The Planetenweg takes a different thematic approach. Among other things, it explains the significance of each planet in Greek mythology. If you also choose a trail based on the subject matter it covers, this mythological connection is a specific difference from a tour whose information focuses mainly on route lengths and a historical occasion.
The Naturhof FaĂźmannsreuther Erde in the Rehau district of FaĂźmannsreuth offers a different kind of visit: it provides guided tours, seminars and talks for groups and individual visitors. Check availability directly with the farm before your trip.
Museum centre and historical landmarks
At the museum centre in Rehau, the historic Zapf chemist’s shop has its own exhibition room. The original furnishings of a Rehau blacksmith’s workshop illustrate the physically demanding work of earlier times. For culturally interested travellers, these provide two different insights into historical everyday and working life: the historic chemist’s shop and the blacksmith’s work.
The village church in the district of Pilgramsreuth dates back to 1308. The Evangelical Lutheran parish church has surviving Gothic frescoes and a rich, uniform interior from the Baroque period around 1700. The church therefore brings together remains from the Gothic period and a cohesive Baroque interior.
The Peace Oaks on Maxplatz add a precisely dated occasion to the cultural history: they were planted on 12 April 1871 during a peace festival following the end of the Franco-Prussian War. Unlike the landmarks in Pilgramsreuth, which relate to several periods, the focus here is on a specific historical event.
