Reichling can be explored through a range of themes: the long-standing tradition of veneration of St. Leonhard, the Hirschaurunde route through the village, and two museums with different collections. When planning your trip, local traditions, the route and historical exhibitions can each provide a different focus.

A long-standing tradition

The veneration of St. Leonhard in Reichling began in 1435. Since then, processions on horseback and horse-drawn rides have taken place almost every year; many participants and spectators also come from far beyond the district boundaries. This custom combines a historical beginning with a tradition that takes place regularly, though not without exception every year. If you are travelling specifically to see the processions or rides, check the date for your chosen year in advance.

The Hirschaurunde through Reichling

The Hirschaurunde passes through Reichling and by the Wurzberg, also known as the “Balcony of Upper Bavaria”. On the section through the village, it descends to the Lechhalde and follows along it. The route described thus includes both the named Wurzberg and the section along the Lechhalde. If you would rather plan your time around a route than a collection, the Hirschaurunde offers a specific option. Check local trail conditions when planning your trip.

Two museums, different collections

The Kleine Heimatmuseum (Small Local History Museum) is located in Reichling’s old fire station. Its focus is on objects from rural life in the past. It also features old firefighting equipment, historical photographs and enamel signs, as well as numerous certificates and documents dating back to the 16th century. The collection thus brings together everyday objects and items relating to the history of firefighting with older written documents.

The Roman-Celtic Museum offers a different perspective on the past. It has been housed on the upper floor of the parish centre on Flößerstraße in Reichling since 2003. A diorama and numerous exhibits illustrate life almost 2,000 years ago. Most of the Roman finds from the Mühlau cremation burial ground include oil lamps, bowls, cups, vases, a hand mirror, various brooches, gaming pieces and coins. Visits are possible by appointment. Comparing the two collections, one focuses on rural life in the past and historical documents, while the other features Roman finds and the period they come from.
