In Miesbach, culture and hiking trails come together with a range of ways to explore the surrounding area. The mindfulness trail on Stadlberg passes seven stations; several circular routes make it easy to compare distances and durations when planning. There is also the Waitzinger Keller cultural centre, the local history museum and activities related to Miesbach traditional dress. When planning your stay, you can choose your own focus, from outdoor activities and local history to events.

Hiking on Stadlberg and circular routes from Miesbach

Stadlberg is Miesbach’s local mountain, offering views and easy access. The mindfulness trail is on the mountain. It starts above Kleinthal, is about 3 kilometres long and leads to seven stations. The focus at these stations is on mindful awareness, walking and breathing, gratitude and observing nature; one station invites visitors to try a simple mindfulness exercise from yoga. The route combines a manageable length with several prompts along the way.

A gentle circular route to the former Wallenburg Castle is listed as 4.7 kilometres from Miesbach station, with a duration of 1 hour and 15 minutes; there is an option to stop for refreshments. Longer options are the Miesbach Stadlberg Loop and the circular route Through the “Untere Wies”. The family-friendly Stadlberg Loop, of moderate difficulty, starts at Habererplatz, right next to the town square, and covers 8.1 kilometres in 2 hours and 30 minutes. The also family-friendly, easy route Through the “Untere Wies” is 8.0 kilometres long and takes about 2 hours and 15 minutes.

Another easy route is By Train into the Mountains. It runs from Miesbach station via Agatharied to Schliersee, is 8.6 kilometres long and takes about 2 hours; there is also an option to stop for refreshments here. By comparison, the Wallenburg circular route is the shortest of the routes listed here. The distance and duration details help you plan how much time to set aside for each hike.

Museums, traditions and town culture

With a core collection of more than 3,000 objects, the Miesbach Local History Museum explores the natural and cultural landscape of the Oberland region. Its collections include examples of Miesbach furniture painting and religious folk art from the town’s pilgrimage era. They also feature guild and craft tools, objects from home and farm life, a farmhouse parlour, a shoemaker’s workshop and a hatmaker’s workshop. The Miesbach Museum also displays its valuable collection of traditional dress. The original Miesbach traditional costume is cherished in the town as a unique cultural asset.

The Waitzinger Keller cultural centre hosts operas, operettas, musicals, cabaret, concerts, children’s events, traditional celebrations and exhibitions throughout the year. Visitors who want to get to know Miesbach on a town walk can join the MIESBACHER KULtouren, guided tours for groups with specific interests. The Miesbacher GENUSStouren combine a culinary journey through time with regional specialities and international cuisine. Stops include shops, cafés, bistros, restaurants and trendy bars.

Regional history offers another point of interest: the town and district of Miesbach played an exceptionally important role in the history of Haberfeldtreiben. The cultural offering thus ranges from collections and traditional dress to a historic tradition of significance to the town and its surrounding area.
