Hohenkammer is nestled among the gentle hills of the Danube-Isar hill country. The municipality’s landscape is shaped by the Glonn’s varied network of valleys and broad open spaces. Despite land consolidation and the straightening of the river, the Glonn valley remains an important natural and recreational area. The valley and open countryside offer different perspectives on the municipality to help you find your bearings locally.

Hohenkammer Castle

Hohenkammer Castle is a Renaissance moated castle. Its foundations date back to the 16th century. The moated castle is a three-storey, four-wing Renaissance complex, built after 1551 in place of the medieval moated castle. In 1975, the castle was restored in the style of the Upper Bavarian Renaissance. This allows you to view its medieval predecessor, the later Renaissance complex and the restoration as distinct stages in its architectural history.

Hohenkammer Castle Park is accessible by car; parking is available on the castle grounds. As access and parking arrangements may change, check the conditions before your visit. The information on arriving by car provides practical guidance, while the castle’s architecture offers a different perspective on the history of the place.

Parish church in the town centre

The parish church of St. John the Evangelist is located in the centre of Hohenkammer. It is known for its highly visible church tower and light-filled interior. The church is a single-nave hall with a recessed, polygonal Late Gothic choir and a nave dating from 1813. The ground floor of the choir-flanking tower dates from the 14th century; the tower was raised around 1620. The various dates make the church’s architectural history visible in several of its parts: the choir, nave and tower each bring together distinct architectural periods.
