When choosing your destination, Burlafingen offers specific points of interest related to watercourse restoration and the history of religious architecture. The Burlafingen Water Trail focuses on the renaturalisation of flowing waters. This includes a small biotope at the confluence, a retention area, lowered banks and a natural riverside landscape with belts of trees and shrubs. This brings into focus both the changes to the watercourse and its banks, and the habitats that have been created.

Water Trail and Circular Route

Another route in the Pfuhl/Burlafingen area is the provisionally described circular route, which is 1.2 kilometres long and follows the Landgraben and Feldgraben ditches. It starts at Froschlachweg. Five of the eleven information boards in total are located along the route. The route may be extended or revised, so check before your visit whether the provisional route details are still valid.

The Water Trail and the circular route highlight different aspects of the landscape. The Water Trail focuses on renaturalisation, the biotope, the retention area and bank design. The information about the circular route, by contrast, gives you a specific distance, starting point and route along two ditches. This lets you get an idea in advance of which topics and route details are particularly relevant to your visit, without conflating the two offerings into a single route.

Church and Chapel in Burlafingen

St. Konrad is a church in Burlafingen built in the late 1950s. It was consecrated in 1960. Its altar contains relics of Saint Christina and Saint Manno; the church also features a mosaic on the wall behind the altar. Antonius Chapel, in Burlafinger Wald, was consecrated in 1987. St. Konrad therefore combines a post-war building history with specific details about its furnishings, while the chapel provides a historical point of interest of its own. Neu-Ulm as a Broader Travel Destination

In the broader travel destination of Neu-Ulm, the Edwin Scharff Museum is located at Petrusplatz in the heart of Neu-Ulm. Under one roof, it brings together an art museum and a children’s museum. The permanent exhibitions focus on Edwin Scharff, the painter, graphic artist and sculptor born in Neu-Ulm, and the artist Ernst Geitlinger. At the Make-It Sundays, visitors of all ages can get creative themselves in the museum workshop, with guidance from the educational team. As programme dates may change, it is advisable to check the latest dates before making plans.

The Neu-Ulm digital art tour also offers a distinct way to explore art and architecture: it brings together 32 artworks, places and architectural sites across three thematically related tours. For a route with a stated distance, there is the easy Festungs- und Donaublicke Neu-Ulm route. It runs from SchieĂźhausallee to Johann Baptist Church, is 4.30 kilometres long and takes about 1 hour and 1 minute. Check the current route in advance, as details may change.

Neu-Ulm’s cultural landmarks also include St. Johann Baptist, one of Germany’s most important Expressionist religious buildings. About half of the Neu-Ulm section of the Ulm/Neu-Ulm Federal Fortress remains. The Glacis grounds of the former Ulm Federal Fortress are now a banana-shaped urban park. The Neu-Ulm Glacis grounds include a small lake stage, a beer garden and a playground immediately next door. Check the seasonal programme and local conditions before visiting.

Kollmannspark, surrounding the Neu-Ulm water tower, is an inviting place for a stroll. Together with the Glacis, it has a different character from the water-related themes of the Burlafingen trail: here, the focus is on the urban park and leisurely walks. These different places and offerings give you several specific themes to use when planning your trip to Burlafingen and the broader travel destination of Neu-Ulm.
