If you are looking for a hotel in Obersöchering, local attractions can help shape your choice of destination: the focus is on listed churches and historic buildings, as well as hiking and cycling options. This gives you two different priorities to weigh up for your stay: architectural history and outdoor activities.

Churches with Different Architectural Styles

The Catholic branch church of the Assumption of Mary, also known as the Liebfrauenkirche, is a Romanesque choir-tower church listed as a historic monument. Its core dates from around 1200. In contrast, the Catholic parish church of St. Peter and Paul, also a listed monument, has a recessed polygonal choir in the Late Gothic style. “Polygonal” describes an end section with several sides; “recessed” describes a choir set back from the nave.

The churches therefore offer different ways to explore their architectural history: the Romanesque core defines the character of the Assumption of Mary, while the Late Gothic choir is a feature of St. Peter and Paul. If church architecture is part of your choice of destination, you can compare more than just the age of the buildings.

Historic Buildings and Remembrance

The war memorial at Habacher Straße 2 commemorates the First World War. It depicts an over-life-size Saint Sebastian on a tall pedestal; a small fountain basin and name plaques are also part of its design. The plaque on the former rectory on the same street, also at number 2, bears the year 1639.

The listed residential section of the former farmhouse at Hauptstraße 2 is a two-storey rendered building with a carved upper gallery and a projecting gabled roof in Neo-Gothic forms; it bears the date 1869. The listed inn building at Hauptstraße 4 is a long, two-storey single-ridge farmhouse with a shallow gabled roof. Its core dates from the late 18th century. These dates refer to different buildings and serve different purposes: 1639 appears on the plaque, 1869 dates the residential section of the former farmhouse, while the inn building is described by the age of its core.

Hiking: the Filze and Pollinger Weiher

A gentle, almost flat 9.7-kilometre circular hiking route runs through the Filze near Obersöchering. It follows mostly paved farm tracks. Its length, terrain profile and path surface are useful details when planning a hike as part of your trip.

The “Pfaffenwinkel Obersöchering” hike follows a different described route: it starts at the car park by the sports ground near Obersöchering, goes around the Pollinger Weiher and returns to the car park. The Filze loop is described by its length and profile; the Weiher tour is defined by its starting point, the pond and the return route. Check trail conditions before setting out.

Plan a Cycling Trip

The Riegseerunde is another option if you would like to include a cycling route in your trip plans. It passes through Obersöchering and then follows a cycle path towards Habach and Sindelsdorf. Its onward direction gives this cycling route a different planning focus from the two circular hikes. When choosing activities, you can therefore distinguish between a hike with a described circular route and a cycling route with a stated onward direction.
