Discover Hemau: Culture, Play and Leisure
Accommodation in Hemau
Hemau combines cultural venues with a variety of leisure activities: culture and events take centre stage at the Zehentstadel, while the toy museum, pump tracks, a digital scavenger hunt and an adventure playground offer a range of activities. When planning your visit, it is worth distinguishing between the museum’s seasonal opening times and the outdoor activities.
Culture at the Zehentstadel and the Toy Museum
Kulturstadel Hemau e.V. was founded in January 2005 with the aim of bringing the Zehentstadel to life through culture. The Zehentstadel has served as a cultural centre since renovation work was completed in December 2003. In addition to the town library and town archive, it houses the council chamber and the BĂĽrgersaal, two multifunctional event spaces for talks, readings and concerts. The building therefore brings together municipal facilities and spaces for a range of event formats.
At the Hemau Toy Museum, you can see toys from the 19th and 20th centuries, including dolls, toy shops, metal and wooden construction sets, and a working model railway. Opening times vary by season: from the Spring Market on the last Sunday in April through July, and from mid-September through December, on the first and third Sunday of each month from 2 to 4 p.m. Check the current Hemau town website before your visit.
Play and Movement
At Hemau’s “Kuhtrails” dirt park, there is a children’s pump track for the youngest visitors, as well as a large pump track and small, medium and large dirt lines for older children, teenagers and adults. You can practise jumps and stunts there. The pump track and dirt lines are separate parts of the facility; the dirt lines are also described by size and intended user group.
“The Treasure at Hessenweiher” is a digital outdoor scavenger hunt around Hemau town centre. Teams use a smartphone to follow an investigative chat with clues and an interactive map to various locations in Hemau. The game combines team tasks with digital navigation. Unlike a museum visit, this activity takes you to locations around the town centre.
The approximately 3,200 m² adventure playground in Tangrintelpark is designed for children of all ages. The site includes around 35 pieces of play equipment, an inclusive playground, an adventure landscape and a water play area. The first phase opened in July 2026; the site will be completed in stages by 2029. This phased schedule is relevant when planning a visit, as the opening initially applies only to the first section.
Getting There and the Wider Region
RVV bus route 28 connects Hemau with Regensburg Central Station via Deuerling, Undorf, Nittendorf and Etterzhausen. In the direction of Hemau, it runs via the Aichkirchen junction. As bus routes and timetables may change, check the latest RVV information before travelling.
Within the wider Regensburg destination, the signposted Fruit Experience Trail runs for about 34 kilometres from Hemau via Beratzhausen to KallmĂĽnz; there are twelve large information boards along the cycle route. This makes it possible to distinguish an activity around Hemau town centre from a regional cycling route: the digital scavenger hunt takes teams to locations using their smartphones, while the Fruit Experience Trail links several towns along a signposted route.
