Arnstein combines a terraced Old Town with historic roses, a natural swimming lake and venues used for cultural events. This offers different ways to plan your trip: architectural history and narrow lanes shape the character of the Old Town, while the Rose Garden and lake each add their own appeal. The Wern Cycle Path also passes through Arnstein. You can tailor your stay to culture, gardens, water or cycling.

Old Town and architectural history

The Old Town rises in terraces, and narrow lanes continue to shape the appearance of this historic administrative town. Its layout is as much a part of the town’s character as its individual buildings. If you are interested in the history of a place, Arnstein lets you explore both the shape of the Old Town and the architectural and decorative history of the town church.

Arnstein’s town church was built from 1722 to 1731; its Neoclassical interior dates from the late 18th century. The dates reveal two phases: the church building dates from the early 18th century, while the Neoclassical interior dates from the late 18th century. This distinction is a particular point of interest for architecture enthusiasts: the building and its interior represent different periods.

The former Arnstein Synagogue has a different cultural character. It was restored and converted into a community centre for cultural events, lectures, concerts and exhibitions. Guided tours, including tours for children, are available to groups by prior arrangement. If you are planning a tour, arrange a time in advance.

Rose Garden and natural swimming lake

The Arnstein Rose Garden is home to around 100 historic roses in approximately 70 varieties, spread across some 200 square metres. With its size and number of varieties, it is a compact garden with a diverse rose collection. Here, the focus is not on architectural history or a single building, but on a range of historic rose varieties.

The natural swimming lake in Arnstein has a water surface of about one hectare, along with a regeneration area and a sunbathing lawn. The grounds also include a natural playground with a mud play area, a water raft and a beach volleyball court. The lake’s appeal comes from its water, sunbathing lawn, and play and activity facilities. Compared with the Rose Garden, the natural swimming lake offers a different way to enjoy time outdoors.

Cycling route and regional perspective

The Wern Cycle Path passes through Arnstein on its route from Rottershausen to Wernfeld. Unlike the Old Town, town church, Rose Garden or lake, it is not a single place but a route connecting different locations. When planning your trip, you can decide whether to explore Arnstein for its individual cultural and natural attractions or as a section of a cycling route.

The Main Hiking Trail adds a regional hiking perspective to the wider Main-Spessart destination. The trail is around 500 kilometres long; nearly 100 kilometres run through the Main-Spessart district, connecting Karlstadt, Gemünden a.Main, Lohr a.Main, Rothenfels and Marktheidenfeld. Compared with the Wern Cycle Path through Arnstein, it offers a different kind of route: a cycling trail through the town and a long-distance hiking trail that passes several towns in the district.
