Weibersbrunn combines a local history closely linked to glassmaking with cultural trails and the forest landscape of the Spessart. There are two perspectives to consider when planning your trip: traces of the former glassworks and trails that reveal nature and local history. The local history museum, European Cultural Trail and hiking trails each offer a different focus.

Glassmaking History and Local History Museum

The founding of Weibersbrunn is linked to a glassworks established in 1706. It produced sheet glass and hollow glass; crown glass was added later. The historic Eselsweg trail is also part of the town’s history: Weibersbrunn’s story is linked to this route. A new church was built in 1862 on the former glassworks site.

Glass from Weibersbrunn is on display at the local history museum, located at Hauptstraße 40. This lets you connect the history of glassmaking with a look at the glass objects themselves. If you are planning a visit, check the current opening arrangements beforehand. The local history spans a period from the glassworks associated with the town’s founding, through the different types of glass produced, to the later construction of a church on the former site.

Cultural Trail and Local Themes

The European Cultural Trail associated with Weibersbrunn can be started at the local history museum, the Herz-Jesu-Bildstock wayside shrine or the Echterspfahl. Its information boards cover motorway construction, stave makers and the Ruhlandspfad, as well as sections of a forest nature trail. The trail therefore covers more than the history of the glassworks: its stops also explore topics related to work and the forest. The different starting points let you choose where to join the cultural trail. As access arrangements may change, it is advisable to check the latest information before your visit.

Hiking Trails Around Weibersbrunn

Well-marked hiking trails around Weibersbrunn take you through the diverse natural landscapes of the Spessart. The fifth stage of the Hasenstabweg offers a specific distance: it runs from Rothenbuch to Weibersbrunn and is 7 kilometres long. This figure refers to the stage, not the entire route. The Hasenstabweg also passes through Lichtenau and Rothenbuch on its way back to Weibersbrunn. This gives you two different ways to get your bearings: the length of a clearly identified section and a description of the route back to town.

Spessart Forest and Ancient Trees

Weibersbrunn lies in the Bavarian Spessart Nature Park, surrounded by vast, unspoiled Spessart forests. Two details describe different woodland areas: the Rohrberg nature reserve is home to an oak stand estimated to be 600 to 800 years old. The Metzgergebiet has mixed woodland estimated to be 230 to 630 years old. These estimates therefore refer to different stands: oaks on Rohrberg and mixed woodland in the Metzgergebiet.

Barbecue Hut for Celebrations

The municipal barbecue hut is located on Oberer Zwiebelrainweg. It offers panoramic views and facilities for small club and private celebrations. If you are considering the hut for an event, check the current booking terms in advance. This makes it different from the town’s cultural and nature attractions: here, the focus is on getting together, while the museum, cultural trail and hiking trails appeal to other interests.
