Weilbach: Local History and Routes
Accommodation in Weilbach
A stay in Weilbach can be shaped around local history, cultural themes and outdoor routes. Church architecture, a fountain relief and mill architecture offer different historical highlights; there are also cycling routes and destinations in the Weilbach Forest. This lets you set priorities when planning your stay—perhaps focusing on architecture, museum exhibits or exploring along a route.
Church, Fountain and Mill
The Catholic Church of St. John in Weilbach dates from 1789. The Dreiröhrenbrunnen, or Three-Pipe Fountain, with its Baroque relief stands in the town center. At the northwestern edge of town is the Mudmühle mill, built in 1585, with its Renaissance gable. These buildings offer different points of reference for exploring Weilbach’s history: the year the church was built, the Baroque design of the fountain and the Renaissance detail of the mill. These places are not all located in the same part of the municipality.
Museum and Carillon
The Weckbach Village Museum is located in the Weilbach municipality, in the district of Weckbach, in a former schoolhouse. Its exhibits cover the church, municipality, school, clubs and household, as well as agriculture and forestry. The museum displays larger objects, including agricultural equipment, in a barn and in an open-air area. The Weckbach Village Museum is listed as open on the last Sunday of the month from 2 to 4 p.m.; please confirm this before your visit.
A carillon can be heard daily in the Old School Courtyard at Weilbach Town Hall. If the timing matters for your plans, check the latest information in advance.
On Foot and by Bike
The W 6 circular trail runs from the Dreiröhrenbrunnen in the town center over the Mud Bridge and into the Ohrnbach Valley. The route description makes the starting point and direction clear. As trail markings and conditions may change, check them before setting out. The Miltenberg/Amorbach cycling route passes directly through Weilbach. The Limes Cycle Route, the Three-Country Cycle Route and the Main-Tauber-Franconian Cycle Eight also cross the municipality of Weilbach. These routes offer different ways to include Weilbach in a cycling itinerary; the latter three statements refer to the municipality, not specifically to the town center.
Forest, Gotthardsberg and Vineyard Terraces
The Weilbach Forest includes destinations such as Hallsteine, Wolfgangsee and Zigeunersteine. Nearby is the Weilbach Forest Discovery Trail on Gotthardsberg. It has twelve stations, peepholes and tree-species information boards. The trail was designed for young families, but is also suitable for anyone interested and for groups. It combines a route through the surrounding area with specific stops and information about tree species.
Also nearby is the Gotthardsruine, a Gothic pillar basilica on a hilltop on the nearby Gotthardsberg. The vineyard terraces on the lower slope of Weilbachkopf offer a different aspect of the landscape. Wine has been grown there again since 1975. Together, these places show different facets of the surrounding area—from forest destinations and a historic ruin to a cultivated landscape that is still farmed.
Cultural Attractions in Miltenberg
Miltenberg also offers its own cultural attractions. The Stadt Museum presents the history of Miltenberg and the region in three historic half-timbered houses at the market square, the Schnatterloch. The Miltenberg Castle Museum displays 16 Greek and Russian icons from the 16th to the 19th century alongside works by contemporary artists. Miltenberg District Cultural Weeks begin each year in mid-September and offer a varied program for all ages. This includes concerts of classical and contemporary music, as well as jazz and electronic music events; specific dates vary.
