Burghaslach combines hiking and cycling routes with cultural destinations and recurring events. If you are looking for a hotel in Burghaslach, you can plan your trip according to whether you mainly want to explore trails, visit churches and castles, or attend a market. The municipality also offers other nature and cultural attractions.

Hiking and cycling

The landscape around Burghaslach is typically Franconian: hills, fields, meadows and forests alternate with one another. There are more than 90 kilometres of hiking trails within the municipality. One specific themed route is the FĂĽrstenforst nature trail. It is about two kilometres long and begins at the FĂĽrstenforst forest playground or recreation area. Along the way, it offers information about forest ecology, plants and animals, sustainable forestry, and wood as a renewable resource.

The forest adventure trail is a circular route through the municipal forest, with plenty of information and display boards. It also starts at the forest playground in FĂĽrstenforst. The two trails therefore differ in their descriptions: forest ecology and forestry are explicit topics on the nature trail, while the forest adventure trail focuses on the circular walk and information boards.

There are also long-distance routes for cycling. The approximately 68-kilometre Haslachtal–Reiche Ebrach long-distance cycle route runs via Scheinfeld, Burghaslach and Pommersfelden to Bamberg. As the Steigerwald cross-country route, it connects Bamberg with Burghaslach via Hirschaid, Mühlhausen and Schlüsselfeld. The Drei-Franken-Stein-Weg runs through Upper, Middle and Lower Franconia and also passes through Burghaslach. It is marked throughout with the Drei-Franken-Stein symbol. Check the current trail conditions before setting out.

Sights and culture

Burghaslach Castle is one of the town’s notable sights. The churches in Burghaslach recommended for a visit include St. Ägidius Church. St. Mauritius Parish Church was built as early as 1336. Another cultural venue is the Kulturtankstelle in Burghaslach. It is used mainly for cultural events organised by the Kulturtankstelle working group and for adult education courses.

The cultural trail of the Steigerwald municipality of Burghaslach presents, on 22 steles, natural monuments, famous personalities and notable buildings, as well as castles and churches that have shaped Burghaslach’s history. The steles are spread throughout the municipality. Another trail starts in the centre of town: the water education trail begins at Casteller Castle.

There are also sights in other parts of the municipality. The water castle in Breitenlohe is one of the market town’s notable sights. Fürstenforst Castle has a draw well and can only be viewed from the outside. A well-maintained Kneipp facility is located near the Burghaslach dam; check whether it is currently open for use before visiting.

Markets and church festivals

The spring market takes place every year on the penultimate Sunday in April. The Christmas market is held each year on the Saturday before the second Sunday of Advent. Since the exact dates follow these rules, check the official calendar before travelling. Church festivals are traditionally celebrated in the market town, with dates varying by locality. If an event is the reason for your trip, be sure to check its specific date against your plans.

Planning your journey
