Nentershausen offers a range of options for a stay: Tannenberg Castle, the local history and mining museum, and the Glück-Auf Cycle Route. The themes range from the mining history of the Richelsdorf Mountains to a 36-kilometre cycling loop. If you are looking for a hotel, you can choose your focus based on whether you mainly want to explore the castle and local history, visit the museum or plan a cycling tour.

Tannenberg Castle and independent exploration

Tannenberg Castle was built around 1300 by Ludwig I of Baumbach and served as a fief castle of Hersfeld Abbey. You can explore Tannenburg Castle on your own. A castle shop and a castle-themed puzzle for children add to the visit; Tannenburg Castle also has a rustic inn with a beer garden. Check the current visitor facilities and dining options in advance, as opening arrangements may change.

Mining history at the museum

The local history and mining museum is located at Ruhl 2. It covers mining in the Richelsdorf Mountains from the 15th to the 20th century, including the extraction of copper, cobalt and baryte. Visitors can take rides on a mine railway on the museum grounds. If you are planning a ride, check the current ride and visitor options before your visit.

Local features and cycling routes

A village lime tree around 600 years old stands in the market square. Nentershausen’s Evangelical Church has Baroque interior paintings.

The Glück-Auf Cycle Route is a 36-kilometre loop exploring the mining history of the Richelsdorf Mountains. It passes through Nentershausen and by the mining museum. Most of the route follows cycle paths and farm roads without car traffic; short sections run along country roads with little traffic. The Werra-Burgen-Steig trail also starts in Nentershausen. The two routes differ in their focus: the Glück-Auf Cycle Route is a loop with a mining theme, while the Werra-Burgen-Steig starts in Nentershausen.
