Ronshausen offers several different starting points for planning your trip: hiking and walking trails, circular cycling routes, the Steinbachtal adventure trail at Ronshäuser See, and local market and nativity scene traditions. If you are looking for a hotel for a stay in Ronshausen, you can match these highlights to your own travel interests. This helps you decide whether active trails, activities for children, or cultural themes should be the deciding factor.

Hiking and Cycling Routes in Ronshausen

Ronshausen has 12 circular hiking and walking trails and 17 circular cycling routes. This gives you a choice of different ways to get around: you can make a walking or cycling tour the focus of your plans. The Steinbachtal adventure trail adds a route with individual activity stations to this selection.

The adventure trail begins at Ronshäuser See and leads to the resort of Machtlos. The route is 3.5 kilometers long, or 7 kilometers there and back. When planning, consider whether you want to account for just the one-way route or the return journey as well. Along the way, there are 13 areas for a relaxing or active walk. These include wobbly footbridges, a climbing horse, a climbing tower and a climbing ladder, a tire swing tower, seesaws, log paths, and a rocky section in the Steinbach stream. There are many rest areas along the way. The adventure trail is child-friendly and can be used with strollers and bicycles.

The forest nature trail in Ronshausen has a different focus: it passes 40 information boards about the local forest. The boards make it a good choice if, on a walk, you would rather visit learning stations about the forest than climbing and play stations.

Ronshäuser See and Activities for Children

Ronshäuser See is at the eastern edge of the village, in the direction of Machtlos, and marks the start of the adventure trail. Children are invited to play a detective game at the lake. As materials and availability may change, check in advance whether the game will be available during your visit.

Opposite Ronshäuser See are the fish-breeding ponds of the Ronshausen sport fishing club, including Paul-Rexroth-See. Information boards there cover topics such as fishing, and benches invite you to sit and relax. The lake, game, and information boards offer different highlights: you may find the area interesting both as a starting point for the adventure trail and as a place to pause.

Country Market and Nativity Scene Trail

The Ronshausen Country Market takes place five times a year and offers regional specialties and traditional crafts. If you would like to include such products and craft traditions in your trip plans, the market offers a concrete point of interest. The Ronshausen Nativity Scene Trail features more than 180 nativity scenes from various countries and is also an annual tradition. While the Country Market focuses on regional specialties and crafts, the Nativity Scene Trail centers on the variety of nativity scenes from different countries. The dates of the market and the Nativity Scene Trail may change; check the relevant dates before your trip.

Culture in the Wider Hersfeld-Rotenburg Destination

The wider Hersfeld-Rotenburg destination offers additional cultural attractions in their own right. The Bad Hersfeld Festival has been held annually in the abbey ruins since 1951. Bad Hersfeld Abbey Ruins are considered the largest Romanesque church ruins in the world. In Bad Hersfeld, the Lullus Festival has been held every year since 852, without interruption, during the week of October 16 in honor of the town’s founder, Lullus.

Tannenberg Castle in Nentershausen is also among the historical attractions of the wider destination: it was built around 1300 by Ludwig I of Baumbach and was a fiefdom castle of Hersfeld Abbey. Alongside the trails, lake, and local traditions in Ronshausen, Hersfeld-Rotenburg therefore offers other cultural sites and historical connections.
