Gründau: Circular Hiking Trails and the Gründau50 Route
Accommodation in Gründau
If you’re planning a trip around hiking trails, Gründau offers clearly distinct routes and viewpoints. Two circular hiking trails start at Hasselweiher; the longest begins at the hiking portal in Mittel-Gründau, while Gründau50 takes in the municipality as a whole. Distance, walking time and route provide concrete criteria for planning your day around the time available and the landmarks you want to visit.
Two circular hiking trails starting at Hasselweiher
The longest circular hiking trail starting at the hiking portal at Hasselweiher in Mittel-Gründau is marked with a white woodpecker on a green background. The route is about seven kilometers long and goes as far as Ronneburg Castle; the walk takes just under two hours. At the edge of the forest, there is a view of Ronneburg Castle, and a bench invites you to take a break. This combines a longer hike with a named destination and a place to rest along the way.
A second circular hike also starts at Hasselweiher and is marked with a wild boar. It is a little over four kilometers long and takes just over an hour. The trail climbs through the Ronneburg Forest to Hasenkopf, then returns to Hasselweiher via a panoramic trail above Almessengrund.
The two loops at Hasselweiher can be compared directly by time: the longest circular hike is about seven kilometers and takes just under two hours, while the Keiler loop is a little over four kilometers and takes just over an hour. The routes also differ: the longer loop goes as far as Ronneburg Castle, while the Keiler loop climbs to Hasenkopf and returns via the panoramic trail above Almessengrund. This makes it easy to choose based on your time frame and the landmarks you want to visit.
Views from Ahornweg
Another viewpoint is along Ahornweg: at the edge of the forest, several benches invite you to linger and enjoy views stretching as far as the Frankfurt skyline. Along with the view of Ronneburg Castle, a skyline vista is also part of the local hiking descriptions. If you’re looking for a place to sit and take in the view during an outing, Ahornweg offers a specific spot to consider. Here, the view and seating go hand in hand.
Gründau50 around the municipality
The hiking route developed by Hannes Schulz under the working title “Gründau50” was created to mark the anniversary “50 years of Gründau 1972–2022.” It goes around the municipality and includes all seven districts. From Lieblos, it runs through the Kinzigaue and north through the Steinbach residential park to Hasselweiher at Reitzeberg. Another described section runs through Mittel-Gründau along the Gründau, the stream that gave the larger municipality its name. Unlike the two loops that start at Hasselweiher, this route focuses on the area around the municipality. You can choose between a specific circular route with a stated walking time and a route that takes in Gründau’s districts and landscapes.
