In Linsengericht, you can plan your stay around a range of interests: marked hiking trails and scenic views, local history at several museums, or a visit to the wildlife park. The destinations and themes vary—from technical collections in Altenhaßlau to historic sites and paths in the Gerichtswald forest.

Hiking Trails, Views and Landscape

The municipality has four marked circular hiking trails. Another route to consider is the Spessartbogen premium hiking trail, which crosses the Linsengericht district from Breitenborner Höhe to Krötenweiher near Waldrode. Before setting out, check the local route information.

You can enjoy a view from the elevated area known as “Am Rosengarten” near Eidengesäß, on circular hiking trails 1 and 2. From there, the view stretches across the Kinzig valley to Gelnhausen and, on a clear day, as far as the slopes of the Taunus. Visibility is therefore key to seeing into the distance. The tall standard fruit trees are also part of the area’s history: they have shaped the landscape of Linsengericht for centuries.

Museums and Local History

In the district of Altenhaßlau, two museums offer different perspectives. Since 1998, the Radio Museum in the Old School has displayed and demonstrated radios, record players, tape recorders, televisions and measuring equipment dating from 1923 to 1990. The collection comprises more than 300 exhibits, most of which are in working order.

The Village Museum in the tithe barn focuses on life in the village in the past. Its themes include agriculture, wheelwrighting, knitting, blacksmithing, shoemaking and baking. Domestic life is represented too: the exhibition includes a kitchen, washroom, living room and bedroom. The tools and household items date from around 1900 to 1960. The district therefore offers a focus on both the history of technology and on crafts and everyday life.

The Local History Museum at Geisbergstraße 2 in the district of Eidengesäß displays historic craft and household items. Tours for individuals are available by telephone arrangement; admission is free. Confirm the details by phone before your visit.

Historic Sites and Traces in the Landscape

The Marienkapelle chapel stands in the centre of Eidengesäß and was consecrated in 1349. In the 16th century, it was named the Sankt-Veits-Kapelle. Old stones in the Gerichtswald forest and the adjoining field districts offer another way to explore the past. They may provide clues about former ownership, boundaries, historic events and living conditions.

Along circular hiking trail RWL 2 in the Gerichtswald forest, a changing array of art objects is part of the trail. These include ceramic objects, wooden sculptures, stone cairns and figures assembled from various materials found in the forest. The changing displays thus include both crafted materials and forms made from forest resources.

Wildlife Park and Fishing

At the Eidengesäß wildlife park, children and adults can see goats, fallow deer and red deer. If you are interested in fishing, Weiher Im Grund, also known as Krötenweiher, offers another option: visitors with a valid fishing licence can obtain a permit from Angelclub 1970 Großenhausen e.V. As permit rules may change, confirm the conditions with the fishing club.
