Explore Krummhörn through a range of interests: the Wadden Sea and coastal protection, routes and waterways, historic churches, and a play and sports area behind the dike. The municipality comprises 19 villages; village life, civic engagement, long-established community structures and club life are part of its local character. When planning your trip, you can first decide whether nature, physical activity or culture should shape your stay. The following attractions offer different starting points.

Wadden Sea, birdwatching and fishing

At the Greetsiel National Park House, the interactive exhibition explores seasonal changes in the Wadden Sea around Ley Bay and covers the natural environment of the Wadden Sea, coastal protection and fishing. In this way, natural changes and human use are presented together. Activities include birdwatching trips along the dike and in the Leyhörn nature reserve. The centre also offers guided mudflat walks in Krummhörn and guided tours focusing on shrimp fishing. Each format has a different emphasis: the birdwatching trips focus on birds, the mudflat walks on the Wadden Sea, and the shrimp-fishing tours on a specific branch of coastal fishing. The options therefore range from an interactive exhibition to guided nature and fishing activities.

Routes, waterways and getting to the museum

Krummhörn offers Nordic walking and water-walking routes for exploring the area. Another way to experience the surroundings on the water is to explore the inland waterways, which extend towards Emden and the Großer Meer lake in Südbrookmerland. Mooring places and rental boats make it possible to explore by boat. Routes and boat trips offer different ways to discover the area while getting active.

The East Frisian Agricultural Museum can be reached by bicycle from all directions. Bus route 422 goes to the Jan-Edzards-Straße stop in Campen. Transport information may change, so check the timetable before travelling. This gives you the option of cycling or taking a specific bus connection when planning your visit to the museum.

Church history and landmarks

The construction history of Rysum village church spans from the second half of the 12th century to the raising of its tower in 1585. The church houses one of the oldest playable organs in the world; it dates from 1457. The years refer to different features: 1457 to the organ, and 1585 to the raising of the tower. Tours of the Evangelical Reformed Church in Rysum are available by arrangement. Please confirm your appointment in advance, as visiting arrangements may change.

In Greetsiel, the twin mills are prominent landmarks and popular meeting places. Together with the church in Rysum, they offer different cultural points of interest: in one place, mills define the townscape; in the other, the focus is on architectural history and the organ.

Play and sport at Upleward dry beach

Upleward dry beach adds a 9,000-square-metre leisure, play and sports facility with sand, located directly behind the dike, to the area's nature and culture attractions. The facility includes a pirate ship and water play area, as well as seating areas, volleyball and beach soccer. This sand-covered space offers opportunities for play and sport alongside Krummhörn's exhibitions, guided activities and historic destinations. Choosing among these different areas of interest can give your trip a clear direction.
