Eversen is a heath village on the Örtze. Fields, meadows, expansive woodlands, and the river shape the landscape; the village invites you to hike and relax. In the historic village center, old half-timbered houses define the scene. If you are considering Eversen as a destination for a stay, nature and village history offer different interests here. For planning, the “Historic Eversen” circular hiking trail, the historic buildings, and a cycling tour through the heath and Örtze Valley provide concrete starting points.

Hiking Along Historic Paths

The approximately 6.5-kilometer “Historic Eversen” circular hiking trail explores the heath village on the Örtze along historic paths and provides information on several information boards. This makes the village’s history an explicit theme of the hike. The approximate distance gives you a concrete reference point for planning. As route conditions can change locally, it is advisable to check them before setting out.

Half-Timbered Houses and Village History

Old half-timbered houses continue to define Eversen’s historic village center. On Dorfstraße, the Old School was built in half-timbered style at the end of the 19th century. Rittergut III in Eversen is a two-storey manor house built in 1700. The Thölke House is the largest farm building in Eversen and an old four-post farmhouse. Rittergut Eversen I is the oldest of the three manors in Eversen. Rittergut II, also known as Majorshof, is the village’s third manor building.

A historic timber-binding site on the Örtze was the Binnestä at the Kolk. From the 18th century until the beginning of the 20th century, tree trunks were tied together there to form rafts and transported away by water. In the 18th century, a pipeline made of hollowed-out tree trunks ran through Röhrendamm. It carried brine from the salt spring in Sülze to the salt boilers in Altensalzkoth. These examples represent different historic transport tasks: tree trunks were moved by water, while brine was carried through a wooden pipeline. At the end of the old village street, the war memorial commemorates those killed in the First and Second World Wars.

Cycling Through the Heath and Örtze Valley

The 39-kilometer cycling tour “Through Heath, Forest, and the Örtze Valley” leads through Südheide Nature Park. It passes through the heath villages of Oldendorf, Sülze, and Eversen and follows in the footsteps of the salt boilers. The tour can be started at the “Gasthaus Otte” car park on Dorfstraße in Eversen. If you plan to use this starting point, check local parking conditions beforehand. Route conditions can also change locally, so take this into account when preparing. In terms of distance, the “Historic Eversen” circular hiking trail is about 6.5 kilometers, while the cycling tour is 39 kilometers. This lets you choose a tour based on your preferred distance and weigh up the historic circular trail against the cycling route through the nature park, which focuses on the salt boilers.
