Information about cycling and bus services relates to the municipality of Tülau. For more cultural, landscape and cycling topics, see the wider district of Gifhorn.
The bee trail on the edge of town
The bee trail maintained by the Brome Beekeepers’ Association is on the western edge of Tülau and can be visited year-round at any time of day. The “Tülauer Kneipe” is located along the trail, where you can cool your feet. The trail and this opportunity to cool off are two specific ways to enjoy a stay connected to Tülau.
Church and landscape around Tülau
St. John’s Church in Tülau was built in 1929/1930 to plans by Adolf Schulze, a master carpenter from Fahrenhorst. The construction period, architect and his place of origin link the church to the history of the town.
The Kleine Aller drains the Kiebitz Moor, west of Tülau, through a system of ditches that has been gradually expanded over the last few centuries. This is not just a matter of a moor or a river in isolation: the ditch system and drainage describe a specific relationship between waterway and landscape. The church and Kiebitz Moor thus offer different perspectives on the area, one historical and the other landscape-related.
Cycling and bus services in the municipality
The municipality of Tülau is connected to the district cycling network. Public buses in the municipality generally run hourly to Wolfsburg and Gifhorn. The cycling network and bus services are different points of reference for your planning: check the current timetable before travelling by bus; the district cycling network provides a separate framework for planning a bike trip.
More to explore in the district of Gifhorn
The district of Gifhorn’s landscape includes heathland, forests, moorland, rivers and lakes. The district is also home to the Drömling, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. These regional landscape features provide a broader context than the information about Tülau itself.
The district’s cycling network is extensive, too: it includes around 700 kilometres of leisure cycling routes, plus around 550 kilometres of everyday routes with connecting sections. Around 400 signposted junctions can be combined to plan your own route. The Südheide “Cycling” leaflet offers another guide, listing a total of 14 signposted tours. You can download GPX tracks and more information using a QR code. The junctions help you combine routes yourself; the leaflet brings together signposted tours. Before planning, check whether the leaflet and downloadable route data are up to date.
The International Wind and Watermill Museum in Gifhorn has 13 full-size mills from around the world. The village square on the grounds is freely accessible to all visitors. You can also find fresh bread from the historic bakehouse and regional specialties in the farm shop. As access conditions and offerings may change, check before your visit.
The Großes Moor Moor Railway travels into the Großes Moor, in the municipality of Sassenburg, in covered carriages specially adapted for passenger transport, at six kilometres per hour. Its service is seasonal and weather-dependent. The circular route has two stops, a wooden boardwalk and an observation platform. If you include this trip in your regional plans, check the current operating dates in advance and whether the service can run in the weather conditions.
