Discover Bad Harzburg
Accommodation in Bad Harzburg
Bad Harzburg combines hiking trails with forest themes, local history and brine. Plan your visit around specific interests.
Hiking trails and forest experiences
Starting in the spa gardens, the Ring Hiking Trail forms a loop around Bad Harzburg, combining nature experiences with views of the town’s districts. The Kaiserweg also begins in Bad Harzburg, but is a historic long-distance hiking trail. The difference can help you choose the right kind of hike: one is a circuit around the town, while the other is a long-distance trail that starts in Bad Harzburg.
The Harz Treetop Walk offers a different perspective. It is 1,000 metres long and rises more than 20 metres above the ground. Its stations explain the origins of the universe, the Earth and life, as well as the Harz’s nature and culture. This makes it possible to understand the walk both in terms of its dimensions and the subjects covered at its stations.
The two transport options on the Burgberg can also be distinguished by their routes: the HARZ TreeTop Cableway runs from the Burgberg through the forest towards the treetop walk. The Burgberg Cable Car reaches the GroĂźer Burgberg in three minutes. If you include these destinations in your plans, the route description or named destination provides a first point of reference.
Forest knowledge and the history of Bad Harzburg
The HarzWaldHaus is centrally located in the spa gardens, next to the Burgberg Cable Car station. Its interactive forest exhibition provides information about lynxes and includes a formicarium. For visitors interested in forest topics as well as hiking trails, it offers a distinct focus.
The Museum in the Remise is housed in the listed former coach house of the Harzburg Forestry Office. It displays historical exhibits about the town’s history; the Burgberg Room features archaeological finds from the old Harzburg castle. The building and exhibition thus bring together two aspects: the Remise’s former use and the history of the town.
In the spa park, the historic Wandelhalle is regarded as a place for health and social interaction. The Bad Harzburg Sole-Therme offers another connection to brine: it uses natural brine from a depth of 840 metres. These themes complement the hiking and forest highlights with the area’s health and spa history.
Getting there and planning your trip
Bad Harzburg can be reached by bus, train or car via the A369, B4 and B6. Since road conditions can change, it is advisable to check your route before setting off. When planning, you can consider your journey and daily activities separately: first choose your mode of transport, then select the hiking, forest, museum and brine themes that will be the focus of your trip.
Culture in the wider destination of Goslar
In the wider destination of Goslar, the historic old town is a cultural highlight in its own right. Preserved as a contiguous area of around one square kilometre, it contains more than 1,500 half-timbered houses. Goslar’s Imperial Palace adds another historic landmark: it has stood at the foot of the Rammelsberg for almost 1,000 years and was once the seat of kings and emperors. These sights are in Goslar and complement Bad Harzburg’s local themes with the town’s history and its Imperial Palace.
