Hahnenklee has been a climatic health resort for over 130 years and is known for its health-promoting climate. When looking for a hotel in Hahnenklee, you can choose based on whether you want to focus on the stave church and local history, hiking trails, or leisure activities at ErlebnisBocksBerg.

Stave Church and Local History

Hahnenklee Stave Church was built between 1907 and 1908 in a ten-month period, modelled on older Norwegian stave churches. Spruce wood from the surrounding area was used for its construction. The church has 240 seats and a carillon with 49 bells. Regular performances feature both the organ and the carillon. From May to October, the Thursday concerts include organ music, chamber music and the large tower carillon.

Since 22 May 2016, the Hahnenklee Local History Museum has been housed in the Kurhaus. Its historical exhibits showcase the history of Hahnenklee-Bockswiese and Upper Harz mining. Local cultural highlights therefore range from the architecture of the stave church to local and mining history.

Hiking Trails Around Hahnenklee

The Liebesbankweg is a 7-kilometre circular hiking trail around Hahnenklee-Bockswiese and the first certified premium hiking trail in the Harz and Lower Saxony. Along the trail are 25 handcrafted benches and numerous works of art. The Auerhahn Cascade, the largest pond cascade in the UNESCO World Heritage Site “Upper Harz Water Management System,” is located on the Liebesbankweg.

The “Mensch & Wald” hiking trail has a different theme: it connects Hahnenklee with Goslar and explores the history of long-forgotten occupations carried out in the forest. Numerous circular and point-to-point hikes also start right in the village. Alongside the five designated terrain therapy hiking trails, there is a broad range of described hiking themes.

ErlebnisBocksBerg: Trails and Attractions

The nostalgic gondola lift to ErlebnisBocksBerg starts right in Hahnenklee’s pedestrian zone; the chairlift starts at the foot of ErlebnisBocksBerg. The Zipline Adventure Bocksberg is located right at the summit of ErlebnisBocksBerg in Hahnenklee and can be reached by gondola or chairlift. The Zipline Adventure Bocksberg also offers a climbing park: it is 100 metres long and has seven climbing elements.

The two summer toboggan runs differ in length and features. At 1,250 metres, the BocksBergBob is longer than the 560-metre Drachenblitz. The Drachenblitz passes through a dragon’s cave and has five spiral turns; the BocksBergBob has a double spiral turn. These specific features make it easy to compare the two attractions.

Culture in the wider destination of Goslar

In the wider destination of Goslar, the Goslar Museum displays the famous Krodo Altar from the early 12th century, a masterpiece of medieval art. The museum’s coin collection includes well over 1,000 Goslar mintings. The historic old town also preserves richly ornamented half-timbered houses, winding lanes, slate roofs and cobblestones.

The old town of Goslar and the Rammelsberg Mine were jointly recognised by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site in 1992. The Rammelsberg Museum and Visitor Mine explores at least 3,000 years of ore mining on and inside Rammelsberg across four museum buildings. These Goslar cultural sites form a distinct part of the wider destination.
