Fohlenplacken is a destination for visitors who want to plan their stay around hiking routes. The Berg und Tal circular trail (N 6) starts and ends at the Fohlenplacken hiking car park; Fohlenplacken is also part of the challenging Sollinghöhen quality hiking route. These two trails offer different levels of challenge: the Sollinghöhen route is 20.6 kilometres long and takes around six hours. When planning your trip, you can first choose between a local circular route and a long hike rated as challenging.

Berg und Tal Circular Trail (N 6)

The N 6 follows natural paths through wooded hills and across mountain pastures. Historic oak avenues and viewpoints are also part of the route. Along the way, you will pass the Sandwäsche information trail and the Fohlenplackener Hut. The hut offers views at sunset. The circular route therefore features both varied landscapes and specific stopping points.

The Sollinghöhen Hike

The Sollinghöhen quality hiking route is rated as challenging, covers 20.6 kilometres and takes approximately six hours. It connects Fohlenplacken with the Mecklenbruch raised bog, the Ahle spring, Neuhaus Wildlife Park, oak avenues and the observation tower in the Hochsolling. The distance, difficulty rating and approximate duration provide a concrete framework for planning your day. Check current trail conditions and accessibility before setting out.

Getting there and trailheads

You can reach Fohlenplacken by train via Holzminden or Uslar; from there, take bus route 510. Check the timetable before travelling. If you are arriving by car, the stated starting points differ depending on the route: the trailhead for the N 6 is the hiking car park on the K 50. For the Sollinghöhen hike, the car park is on Fohlenplackener Straße, opposite Hotel Waldschloß. This lets you coordinate your journey with your planned hike.
