Discover Polle: Castle, Weser and culture
Accommodation in Polle
Polle brings together cultural history, a Weser ferry, a seasonal outdoor swimming pool and a route into the hinterland. This lets you tailor your stay to different interests while also taking account of the conditions that apply to individual attractions.
Polle Castle Ruins and Culture
The ruins of Polle Castle stand on a hill about 25 metres high above Polle in the Weser Valley and are open to visitors. Cultural events are held in the castle courtyard several times a year. Archaeological finds from excavations at the castle can be viewed in the castle museum, offering another perspective on the history of the site.
Advance registration is required for a guided tour of Polle Castle; tours are offered on Saturdays or Sundays. Check that a date is available before you travel. The Cinderella play combines acted scenes with narration, lasts about 30 minutes and is free of charge. This information applies to 2026; check details in advance for later dates.
Weser Ferry, Outdoor Swimming Pool and Route into the Hinterland
The Polle Weser ferry runs between Polle and Heidbrink. It crosses the Weser using the natural current and has no engine of its own. If you plan to take the ferry, check the current timetable in advance.
Polle outdoor swimming pool has separate 25-metre pools for swimmers and non-swimmers. Facilities also include a 1-metre diving board, a 3-metre diving platform, a water slide and play equipment. The pool is open seasonally; check the current opening arrangements before your visit.
The “Through the Habichtstal (Po 2)” route leads from the Weser into the hinterland of Polle. It passes through dense forests and open landscapes and offers scenic views. It complements the cultural history with a route through landscapes that shift between woodland and open terrain.
Holzminden as a Wider Regional Destination
In the wider travel destination of Holzminden, the Museum Schloss FĂĽrstenberg presents porcelain from more than 265 years of the FĂśRSTENBERG porcelain manufactory. The castle complex includes a viewing platform 80 metres above the Weser, with panoramic views of the Weser Valley and the three-state border region. Schloss Bevern is a four-winged Renaissance complex built between 1603 and 1612 around a square courtyard with a moat, two bridges and a castle garden. FĂĽrstenberg combines its porcelain collection with views of the Weser from the platform; Schloss Bevern offers a different focus: Renaissance architecture with a courtyard, moat, two bridges and a castle garden.
Sensoria in Holzminden is also part of this wider travel destination: the interactive museum of smell and taste is the first of its kind in Europe and covers 600 square metres across ten themed areas. Amelungsborn Monastery is in the district of Holzminden on the B64 between Negenborn and Eschershausen.
