Steimbke: Landscape Lake and Hiking Trails
Accommodation in Steimbke
Various walking paths lead around Steimbke Landscape Lake; there is also a toboggan hill by the lake. These features shape local leisure options, with paths by the water and another clearly defined attraction.
Comparing the Samtgemeinde’s Hiking Trails
A tourism brochure dated March 2021 describes three marked hiking trails in the Samtgemeinde of Steimbke:
- The approximately 9.5 km Krähe Tour leads through the Krähe forest area.
- The approximately 9.2 km Blinder See Tour runs through moorland and heathland north of Steimbke.
- The approximately 5.8 km Grinderwald Tour has the theme “Traces of the Past and Modern Times.”
The Krähe Tour and the Blinder See Tour are similar in approximate length, but differ in their landscapes: forest on the one hand, and moorland and heathland on the other. The Grinderwald Tour is shorter and offers a different focus through its theme. Before hiking the Blinder See Tour, check local conditions.
Culture and Excursions in the Wider Travel Destination of Nienburg
The wider travel destination of Nienburg offers other highlights: historical collections and buildings, as well as activities on the Weser and Aller rivers. The Nienburg Museum traces the development of the Middle Weser region from the presence of the first humans to the present day in three historic buildings. Its main building is the Fresenhof, a manor house dating from the 16th century. The museum also includes the Asparagus Museum, the Biedermeier Garden and a lapidarium; the Neoclassical villa offers deeper insights into the 19th century.
Nienburg’s architecture also offers a variety of points of interest: the old town combines half-timbered façades, Weser Renaissance façades and brickwork, and is part of a historic town with a 1,000-year history. Schinna Monastery is located in the Schinna district of the municipality of Stolzenau and is a monument of regional importance. Loccum Abbey is a monastic house built in 1163. In Bücken, the collegiate church of St. Maternian et St. Nicolai houses important art treasures, including a rood cross from 1230 and richly illustrated stained-glass windows from the 13th century.
For trips on the water, the Mittelweser fleet offers sightseeing, experience and charter cruises on the Weser and Aller, departing from Nienburg or Verden. The operator maintains the timetables separately; check the timetable before planning a trip. Another option is a 23.6-kilometre circular route on the Weser Cycle Path between Landesbergen and Stolzenau. Check route conditions before setting out on your bike ride.
More than 300 dinosaur footprints can be seen at Münchehagen Dinosaur Park, bearing witness to a time about 140 million years ago. Hands-on activities are aimed particularly at young children and include excavating a 25-metre-long skeleton.
