Discover Bramsche: Culture, Cycling Routes and Hotels
Accommodation in Bramsche
Bramsche combines textile history, exhibitions and events with cycling routes of varying lengths. If you’re looking for a hotel for your stay, these highlights can help you plan: Would you like to focus mainly on clothmaking and culture, include Kalkriese, or make a cycling route the centerpiece of your trip? The Tourist Information Office at the Clothmaker Museum also provides advice on accommodation, places to visit, and cycling and hiking trails in and around Bramsche.
Clothmaking and Culture in Bramsche
The Bramsche Clothmaker Museum displays spinning and weaving equipment dating from items more than 3,000 years old to machines from the 20th century. This collection offers a look at very different stages in the development of textile technology. Fluffy wool blankets are also made on working machines that are over 100 years old. Creative workshops covering various textile techniques complement the museum’s offerings; specific dates may change.
The KornmühlenKonzerte series also features a variety of musical styles, with concerts ranging from classical chamber music to tango and jazz. At the Cloth Market in September, textile artists and craftspeople present selected products, including unique clothing and unusual fabrics. At Sheep Day in June, a flock of sheep is sheared in the meadow behind the Clothmaker Museum. If you’d like to plan your trip around an event, check the specific date in advance; the date and participants of the Cloth Market may change.
Kalkriese: Park, Exhibition and Events
In the Bramsche district of Kalkriese, the park belonging to the Museum and Park Kalkriese covers more than 10 hectares. Annual events held there include Roman and Germanic Days and the Kalkriese Forum. The exhibition on the Varus Battle offers insights into the lives of the Romans and Germanic peoples, as well as the history of the discovery of Kalkriese. Kalkriese therefore offers both exhibition topics and events in the park. If a particular event is important to your trip, it’s a good idea to check the date in advance.
Choose Cycling Routes by Length
Three Clothmaker Routes explore Bramsche: the Old Town Route is about 2.5 kilometers long, the Hase Meadows Tour about 4.5 kilometers, and the Hasesee Route about 3.6 kilometers. The Old Town Route is therefore the shortest of the three; the Hase Meadows Tour is the longest listed, while the Hasesee Route falls in between. You can compare the distances directly when route length is a factor in planning your day.
The BR 1 cycling route starts in Bramsche and loops around Lake Darnsee over 27 kilometers. This is a different scale from the three Clothmaker Routes. For a longer cycling trip in the wider OsnabrĂĽck travel destination, the 115-kilometer DiVa Tour runs between Bramsche and Bad Essen. It includes relaxed cycling along the Mittelland Canal. The route is connected to public transport: trains operated by WestfalenBahn, NordWestBahn and Deutsche Bahn, the Bremen tram system, and buses operated by Stadtwerke OsnabrĂĽck. Check connections again before setting off.
