Dangast on the Jade Bight: Beach, Mudflats and Art
Accommodation in Dangast
Dangast on the Jade Bight offers several reasons to stay on the North Sea: you can enjoy the bathing beach and mudflats, explore activities related to the water, or focus on the village’s art venues. When looking for a hotel in Dangast, it helps to first consider which of these aspects you would like to shape your stay most.
Beach and Tides on the Jade Bight
The ebb and flow of the tides in the Jade Bight near Dangast create the impression that the bay falls completely dry twice a day and is flooded again twice a day. You can swim in the North Sea at the bathing beach; bathing conditions may vary seasonally.
A concrete path runs along the water’s edge at the bathing beach and is easy to use with a wheelchair, walker or stroller. If you rely on this feature, check the current condition of the path before your visit.
Mudflat Walks and Family Experience World
The Dangast National Park House is located in the old village school at the entrance to the village. The house has a family experience world covering more than 500 m². The offerings also include guided mudflat walks: children aged three to twelve go to the water’s edge with their parents and a landing net. There, they dig up mussels and lugworms and learn about the way these small creatures live.
The walk combines experiencing the mudflats with taking a closer look at their small inhabitants. As dates vary, check in advance which walks are offered during your trip.
Pool, Sauna and Playground
DanGastQuellbad has indoor and outdoor areas; all swimming pools are filled with iodine brine water. Watt’n Sauna has two Finnish saunas, a gentle sauna and a fireplace lounge. If the pool or sauna is important to your plans, check the latest operating information in advance.
Another outdoor destination is the “Wattbuttjer” World Heritage playground, right by the dike. It has a large play ship and other play equipment. This means that in Dangast, alongside the beach and mudflats, you can also choose a playground as well as indoor and outdoor pools and various saunas.
Art Venues in Dangast
The Franz Radziwill House preserves the artist’s original home and studio in Dangast. Changing exhibitions featuring works created there are shown on the upper floor; the collection includes more than 800 paintings, watercolors and drawings. The home, studio and works created there give this art venue its distinctive focus.
The Art Garden opened at the entrance to the village in June 2026. It currently displays eleven artworks made from different materials, as well as six works by regional artists. Guided tours along the Dangast Art Trail are offered regularly; check the specific dates in advance.
Planning Your Trip
There are about 280 parking spaces in front of the World Heritage Portal, as well as the “Am Strand” bus stop. If you plan to travel by bus, check the timetable for your travel dates. You can then choose a focus for your hotel search: the beach and tides, a guided mudflat activity, the pool and sauna, or the art venues. For a specific hotel offer, check whether its stated location and amenities suit your plans.
