Isernhagen offers several ways to explore during a stay: signposted cycling routes, a nature and landscape trail, and historic buildings. If you are looking for a hotel, these highlights can help you plan your visit around your interests. Routes, churches, farmsteads, and historic roads each offer a different perspective on the area.

Routes through the landscape and town

The municipality has signposted its main connecting cycle routes. Its leisure activities also include 160 kilometers of routes featuring scenic attractions and sights. The Isernhagen nature and landscape trail is a circular route through a varied natural and cultural landscape. It brings together natural and cultural features in a single route, while the wider range of tours offers more options for excursions.

The Green Ring offers a different perspective on the landscape. Its circular route passes through open landscapes on the outskirts of Hanover and is suitable for walking. Tour II of the Green Ring runs through Isernhagen and can be reached via the Fasanenkrug and AltwarmbĂĽchen stops on Stadtbahn lines 7 and 3. Check the timetables before setting out, as services may change. Comparing the two circular routes, the nature and landscape trail focuses on the varied natural and cultural landscape, while the Green Ring takes in the open landscape on the outskirts of Hanover.

Buildings and local history

The first farmers settled in Isernhagen in the 13th century. The Wöhler-Dusche-Hof is a historic rural building dating from the late 16th century. The townscape also includes numerous half-timbered houses, offering further insight into the area's architectural history. The farmstead therefore dates from a considerably later period than the first settlements.

St. Mary's Church in Isernhagen K.B. was built in four phases between 1450 and 1703. The church contains 15th-century wall paintings. It is built from bog iron, which was found and smelted in the Wietze lowlands of Isernhagen. Several historical layers come together at the church: its construction phases, wall paintings, and a locally sourced building material.

Former routes and working paths are also part of the area's history. Basselthof was a former horse-changing station on the old post road. A historic cobbled section of the Old Post Road offers a sense of what traveling was like in the past. Two farms from AltwarmbĂĽchen fired bricks at the Flemmingsche Tonkuhle brickworks. Basselthof is also home to a stud farm for Icelandic horses. If you plan to visit, check in advance for current visiting arrangements.

Wietze Park

Wietze Park is divided almost equally between Isernhagen and Langenhagen, with approximately half of the park in each municipality. There are opportunities to swim there. As swimming conditions can vary, check them before your visit.
