Suthfeld lies in the Schaumburg region between the Deister and Lake Steinhude. The municipality consists of established villages; local associations contribute to an active community life. When planning a trip, village character, local history, and regional nature and culture each offer distinct points of interest.

Village History and Archaeology

Agriculture has shaped Suthfeld’s history; coal mining in the Deister is also among its historical influences. Lindenbrink near Riehe is associated with an early medieval settlement. The finds support the interpretation that the area was settled around 800 AD. An exhibition at the Bad Nenndorf Museum displays remains of mounted warriors from Lindenbrink. The museum covers more than 1,000 years of local and regional history, including archaeological finds. These historical connections offer different perspectives: Lindenbrink focuses on a specific settlement, while the museum provides a broader view of the history of the town and its surroundings.

Water, Hiking, and Cycling

The pond in Kreuzriehe is intended for relaxing and spending time, not for swimming. Another activity is the E1 section through the Deister: a 30-kilometre forest hike between Bad Nenndorf and Bad Münder. These offer different options—a stay by the water or exercise on a longer route. Schaumburg district also has a signposted cycle network with red-and-white markings. The Deister, Lake Steinhude, and the towns associated with Weser Renaissance are considered nearby recreational destinations.

For those interested in art and history, the Weser Renaissance Route is a guide. At the Liekwegen Old Quarry, visitors can learn about the significance of the quarry habitat and its biodiversity at five current stops along two circular trails of 1.7 and 2.3 kilometres. The landscape can also be viewed at district level: near Hagenburg, the district borders Lake Steinhude to the northeast; to the south, the Weser and Weser Uplands shape the landscape. The district’s highest elevation is 378 metres above sea level in Goldbeck, a district of the town of Rinteln.
