Oberhaverbeck offers several interests for a stay: trails through the heath, a smartphone rally, a viewpoint and examples of traditional architecture. When planning, the theme and trail length can provide a first point of reference. The Machandel Experience Trail is 11 kilometres long; the Heidschnuckenweg covers 223 kilometres. There is also the Oberhaverbeck Heath as a specific place to explore on foot, as well as an exhibition about heath beekeeping in the surrounding area. This makes it easy to choose a destination based on the activities that appeal to you.

Walking trails at different scales

The 11-kilometre Machandel Experience Trail runs from Oberhaverbeck via Wilsede to Döhle through the car-free nature reserve. It invites families to take part and explore. The Heidschnuckenweg is on a different scale: it is 223 kilometres long in total and runs between Hamburg and Celle through the heathland areas of the Lüneburg Heath and the car-free Lüneburg Heath Nature Reserve. Villages along the route include Wilsede and Nieder- and Oberhaverbeck in the municipality of Bispingen.

The distances help put things into perspective, but they do not refer to the same scale: 11 kilometres is the length of the specific Machandel Experience Trail, while 223 kilometres is the total length of the Heidschnuckenweg. Numerous walking and cycling trails also run through the Oberhaverbeck Heath. The Oberhaverbeck hiking car park is an access point for the “Wilseder Berg” heath loop. A network of walking and cycling trails and a named access point to a specific loop provide further ways to find your bearings alongside the two route distances.

Heathland scenery and orientation

When walking from the Oberhaverbeck car park towards Wilsede, the Oberhaverbeck Heath is the first heathland area you see. This direction links a specific starting point with a feature of the landscape. The summit of Turmberg also offers wide-ranging views across the Lüneburg Heath Nature Reserve. These are two different perspectives: the first visible heathland area on the way towards Wilsede and the view from the summit.

Riddles and an exhibition theme

Free smartphone rallies using the “Actionbound” app start at the Oberhaverbeck visitor car park. They feature tricky riddles, playful challenges and information. The rallies therefore combine knowledge with playful tasks. In the surrounding area, the “Bienenwelten” (“Bee Worlds”) exhibition about heath beekeeping is free to visit at the nature information centre in Niederhaverbeck. The two offerings differ in content: the rallies pair riddles and challenges with information, while the exhibition is devoted to heath beekeeping.

An aspect of architectural heritage

Oberhaverbeck still has examples of the “Wandständer” (wall-post) barn type. This is a specific topic in the area’s architectural heritage, alongside its trails, landscape and exhibition about heath beekeeping. If you are interested in traditional building styles, this type of barn adds an architectural aspect to your view of the place. So alongside routes and nature-related topics, Oberhaverbeck also offers a point of connection with its architectural heritage.
