Bad Bevensen combines signposted trails, activities on the water and cultural offerings. If you’re looking for a hotel for your trip, you can start by deciding whether you mainly want to hike or cycle, plan water activities, or attend cultural events. The different options can help you plan your stay around your interests.

Trails and outdoor activities

Bad Bevensen offers seven signposted circular cycling routes that vary in length and difficulty. There are 15 signposted routes for hiking and Nordic walking, ranging from 5 to 21 kilometres. For walking routes, the distance helps you gauge the scope of a tour; for cycling routes, difficulty is an additional factor to consider alongside distance. If you’d like to plan your days around these details, you can match them to your preferred activity.

Klein Bünstorfer Heide, on the outskirts of Bad Bevensen, is a destination for walkers, hikers and cyclists. Cycling and walking paths run along the Elbe Lateral Canal, offering views of the water and passing ships. The heathland and shipping offer different ways to enjoy the outdoors.

In Bad Bevensen, you can go canoeing, pedal boating and stand-up paddleboarding on the Ilmenau. This adds to the range of activities beyond walking and cycling. If you’d prefer to plan a water activity for your trip, there are three different options to choose from.

Spa gardens, Old Town and culture

Bad Bevensen’s spa gardens have more than 500 trees, rare plants, a wide variety of flora and numerous places to sit. Guided town walks pass through the spa gardens into the Old Town and by St. Three Kings Church.

Medingen Abbey, near Bad Bevensen, is one of the six active Protestant convents in the Lüneburg Heath. The abbey church regularly hosts cultural events. The Kurhaus also hosts cultural events throughout the year. If a particular event date matters for your trip, check the latest event listings.

Spa town and travel connections

Bad Bevensen is considered the only mineral spa in the Lüneburg Heath. In 2021, Bad Bevensen was designated the first barrier-free destination in the state of Lower Saxony.

Trains run hourly towards Hamburg and via Uelzen to Hanover. Check the timetable for your specific travel date if you plan to use one of these connections.

Culture in the Uelzen destination area

Architecture and medieval cartography are among the other cultural themes in the Uelzen destination area. Uelzen’s Hundertwasser railway station was created as a project for Expo 2000 in Hanover and is one of the last works by Austrian architect Friedensreich Hundertwasser. The Ebstorf World Map in Ebstorf Abbey was probably created around 1300, covers approximately 13 m² and is considered the largest known medieval world map.
