Emmendorf is a destination for leisurely walks and cycling trips. When choosing a hotel, you can first consider whether outdoor activity, observing nature, cultural history or an evening together should shape your stay. This lets you plan your trip around your interests without combining the different themes into a single itinerary.

Walks and cycling trips

The two activities offer different experiences: a walk is suited to leisurely exploration, while a cycling trip can be planned as a separate focus of your excursion. When choosing a hotel, you can therefore first decide which activity matters more for your trip. This distinction helps you tailor your plans to your preferred pace for the day.

History and views along the Ilmenau

The crossing over the Ilmenau opposite Walmstorf is still in use and has been documented since 1747. At the Heliand Cross, its construction and dedication took place a year apart: it was built in 1930 and dedicated in 1931. The cross commemorates the Christianization of the region between 900 and 1000 AD and is considered the only high cross of its kind in northern Germany. A viewpoint at the Heliand Cross offers views of the great loop in the Ilmenau. The dates refer to different things: 1930 and 1931 concern the creation of the cross, while 900 to 1000 refers to the period of the Christianization it commemorates.

Lake Jastorf: protection and use

Lake Jastorf was created by soil excavation during construction of the Elbe Lateral Canal. About half of the lake and its shoreline areas are protected as a nature reserve. Deep- and shallow-water zones serve to protect birds; an observation tower offers views of the Jastorf Lake bird sanctuary. The unprotected section is used for recreation and fishing. Thus, nature protection and birdwatching coexist with recreational activities and fishing in the unprotected section. Please stay on the paths and keep dogs on a leash.

Meeting place and group events

The “Zur Linde” inn is a local meeting place in Emmendorf. It offers skittles, and also hosts celebrations and special events for groups of around 15 people or more. Business details and arrangements may change. If a visit or group celebration is important to your plans, confirm the services and arrangements directly with the inn in advance.
