When choosing a place to stay, Rosche offers both a connection to a cycling trip and a specific historical point of interest. The wider Uelzen destination also offers other cultural and landscape themes.

Cycling and practical information

Rosche is a stage stop on the Hanse-Wendland Cycle Route. If you plan to include the town in your tour, check the current route and markings before setting off: conditions and signage may change. A free-to-use bicycle repair station is located at the outdoor swimming pool in Rosche. If you are relying on it, check locally in advance to confirm that it is available.

Outdoor swimming and church history in Rosche

The Rosche outdoor swimming pool is heated and accessible for families. The water temperature remains at a constant 26 °C year-round; the pool is currently closed. The bicycle repair station is also located at the pool, providing cyclists with a practical connection to the town.

One historical point of interest is St. John's Church. When it was consecrated by King George V of Hanover in 1862, the congregation received an organ donated by Harz organ builder Engelhardt. Unlike the cycling route, which makes Rosche a stage stop, this story leads to a specific event in the town's history.

Cultural history in the wider Uelzen destination

In the wider Uelzen destination, the choice ranges from architecture to medieval history. Uelzen's Hundertwasser railway station was created as a project for the Expo 2000 World Fair in Hanover and is one of the last works by Austrian architect Friedensreich Hundertwasser. It combines art, ecology and modernity. The Gothic St. Mary's Church in Uelzen was consecrated and elevated to parish church in 1292; its tower is 86 metres high. Another chapter in the town's history is told by the “Nige Hus” of the Ratsweinhandlung: built around 1500 as an extension of the Old Town Hall, it served as a wine and beer cellar for the town council.

The Ebstorf World Map is housed at Ebstorf Monastery. It was probably created around 1300, covers about 13 m² and is considered the largest known medieval depiction of the world. From 1 April to 31 October, the monastery offers guided tours lasting about 90 minutes, with explanations of the map. If you plan to take a tour, bear this seasonal window in mind and check the dates in advance.

Bodenteich Castle is another historical theme in the wider Uelzen destination. Founded around 1250, it is the only castle in the district of Uelzen, although only partly preserved. It was restored between 1983 and 1988; today it houses the spa administration, the citizens' office and the castle museum.

Landscape and outdoor activities in the Uelzen destination

For a landscape-focused visit, the Ellerndorf Juniper Heath lies between Eimke and Ebstorf in the district of Uelzen. It covers almost 60 hectares and is the largest contiguous heathland area in the eastern LĂĽneburg Heath. Oldenstadt Lake is a popular destination for walking, jogging and swimming in summer. So, alongside architectural and cultural history, the wider Uelzen destination also offers landscape and outdoor activities as themes in their own right.
