Tossens offers several distinct highlights for a stay: mudflat hikes in the UNESCO World Heritage Site off the coast, Friesenstrand with its baby beach, opportunities for walks and a historic church building. Its status as a state-recognized North Sea spa resort is also part of what defines the destination. When planning your trip, you can prioritize these themes according to your interests: nature and beach, walking routes, local history, or an outpatient preventive health treatment or rehabilitation.

The Wadden Sea and Friesenstrand

The Wattwanderung Familie von Thülen offers mudflat hikes in the UNESCO World Heritage Site Wadden Sea off Tossens throughout the year. The tours also include trips to the Unterfeuer Tossens (Tossens Lower Lighthouse). These are two different options to consider when planning your excursions: the mudflat hike focuses on the Wadden Sea environment, while the lower lighthouse is a specific destination for another excursion. The destinations—and the type of outing—are therefore different.

Germany’s first baby beach is located right at Friesenstrand Tossens. It has glass enclosures, sun sails and warm-water showers. Friesenstrand also has a 25-meter-long zip line. When considering the coastal offerings, you can distinguish between the features of the baby beach and the additional leisure activity at Friesenstrand.

More water activities

Aqua Mundo at Center Parcs Park NordseekĂĽste offers water slides, the Crazy River and a wave pool. Its attractions have a different focus from Friesenstrand: while the beach is associated with the baby beach, its facilities and the zip line, Aqua Mundo centers on three named water attractions.

Walks and spa trails

The Pütten Tossens lake landscape is suitable for a walk. Two spa trails also run through the region around Tossens: the 7.1-kilometer Meeresspuren Spa Trail leads from Tossens to Eckwarderhörne; the 12.3-kilometer North Sea and Salt Marshes Spa Trail runs from Burhave to Tossens. The routes differ in length by 5.2 kilometers; Tossens is the starting point of the shorter route and the destination of the longer one. The walk around the Pütten and the two spa trails therefore answer different questions: where to find a suitable walk, or which of two routes with specific lengths and endpoints to take.

The church and the character of the spa resort

St. Bartholomew’s Church is a Protestant listed place of worship in Tossens. Its detached brick building was erected in the 13th century. “Detached” describes its form, “brick” its material, and the 13th century the period in which it was built. For travelers who want to include architecture and local history alongside nature and leisure activities, the church offers a specific historical point of interest.

Tossens is a state-recognized North Sea spa resort. Outpatient preventive health treatments and rehabilitation measures with a focus on thalassotherapy can be carried out there. The resort’s health offerings thus include both preventive treatment and rehabilitation, and both are associated with a focus on thalassotherapy. If a preventive treatment or rehabilitation is the main purpose of your stay, this focus is another factor to consider when choosing a destination, alongside the beach, mudflats and walking trails.
