Gremersdorf-Buchholz offers several themes to consider when planning a trip: historic sights, architectural history and easy hikes. Megalithic tombs, a stone circle, chapels and an estate complex each provide a different historical focus; two easy hikes can be compared by distance and route. This lets you shape your stay around history, architecture and outdoor activity.

Historic Sites and Architecture

The historic sights in the municipality of Gremersdorf-Buchholz include the megalithic tombs in Pöglitz and Neumühl. Neumühl 1 and Neumühl 2 lie between Gremersdorf and Franzburg. The stone circle near Hohenbarnekow is also among the historic sights for which the municipality is known.

The chapel in Gremersdorf offers a different architectural focus. It is a rectangular plastered building, with a roof turret on the west gable that houses a small bronze bell. The interior is simply and contemporarily furnished. The chapel was consecrated in 1954. A roof turret is a small tower structure on a roof. Services are also held in the Gremersdorf chapel on an alternating basis. If you plan to attend a service, please check the dates in advance.

The Wolfsdorf chapel differs in its architectural history: only the west tower of the small late Gothic church has survived. In 1855, a church space with a polygonal floor plan and Neo-Gothic forms was added to it. Here, polygonal means a floor plan with several sides. The church site also includes a cemetery with a fieldstone wall, two 18th-century grave slabs and 19th-century cast-iron crosses. The combination of the surviving west tower, the adjoining church space and the tombs makes Wolfsdorf a distinct point of interest for those interested in architecture and history.

In Pöglitz, the estate complex at Lindenallee 5 includes a manor house, a park and farm buildings. It also includes a chapel and a lime-tree avenue. The complex therefore offers a different historical focus from the individual chapels and the Wolfsdorf church site.

Compare Hikes by Distance and Route

There are two easy routes to choose from. The 8.4-kilometre circular hike near Pöglitz crosses fields and passes through forests rich in wildlife. Detours lead to Neolithic and Bronze Age burial sites, as well as to the Blinde Trebel. A second easy hike is 10.5 kilometres long. It starts at the St. Marien fieldstone church in Drechow, leads into the Blinde Trebel valley and continues to the megalithic tombs near Pöglitz. In direct comparison, the loop near Pöglitz is 2.1 kilometres shorter. It is also the route explicitly described as a circular hike; the other starts in Drechow and continues to the tombs near Pöglitz. You can take both distance and route into account when planning. Availability and trail conditions may change; please check both before setting out.
