Klein Trebbow combines a small terminal moraine landscape with cultural history and church art. During your stay, you can focus on different aspects: the landscaped park, the history of the tea house or the artworks in two churches. This lets you decide while planning your trip whether you are most interested in the landscape, remembrance culture or sacred art.

Village Character and Landscape

Klein Trebbow lies in a small terminal moraine landscape. Woods, farmland, a park and avenues shape the scenery; the avenues connect the five districts. The local setting thus includes both open and wooded areas as well as a landscaped green space. If you are deciding what to focus on during your stay, the landscape offers a different emphasis from the history of the tea house or the churches’ furnishings: here, the focus is on the layout of the village and its landscape features.

Landscaped Park and Fish Trail

Klein Trebbow’s protected landscaped park was developed as a natural and recreational space, with the aim of improving the visitor experience at the same time. Since reopening in 2026, the park has served residents and visitors as a place to meet and relax. It is one of the region’s defining historic parks. The redesign included a new footbridge and a fish trail by Lake Trebbow. The fish trail shares information about native fish, aquatic ecology and sustainable fishing. The park thus brings together two distinct themes: its role as a natural and recreational space, and the trail’s specific educational focus on bodies of water and fishing. You can consider these as different reasons to explore the park: its historic character or its connection between knowledge about bodies of water and sustainable fishing.

The Tea House as a Place of Remembrance

The tea house holds a special place in local remembrance history. In spring 1944, it was used for preparatory discussions about the 20 July 1944 assassination attempt. In 2004, Teehaus Trebbow was inaugurated as a place of remembrance dedicated to resistance against dictatorships, civil courage and civic engagement. The tea house thus brings together a specific link to the events leading up to 20 July and its later memorial role. Visits are only possible as part of scheduled events; check the available dates before visiting.

Church Art in Groß Trebbow and Kirch Stück

The churches in Groß Trebbow and Kirch Stück are two points of art-historical interest. Groß Trebbow Church houses a Baroque pulpit altar ensemble created by the Wismar master Wilde in 1689 and 1691. The term refers to the combination of pulpit and altar in a single ensemble. Kirch Stück Church features stained glass dating from around 1300 in its north choir window, depicting a Crucifixion scene and a knight. The two churches offer different points of interest: a Baroque ensemble in one and a medieval stained-glass window depicting two figures in the other. This gives you a specific basis for weighing your interest in church furnishings against stained glass.

The Wider Landscape of Northwest Mecklenburg

Beyond Klein Trebbow, Northwest Mecklenburg offers a broader landscape setting of its own. In the north, the district includes the “Northwest Mecklenburg Hills and Wismar Bay” landscape area; in the south, it includes the “West Mecklenburg Lake District with Lake Schwerin.” Terminal moraine ridges, gently undulating ground moraine plateaus, steep and gently sloping coastal stretches, meltwater and drainage channels, and outwash plains shape the district’s landscape. These larger landscape areas represent Northwest Mecklenburg as a whole; Klein Trebbow is shaped by its own small terminal moraine landscape. Another cultural site in the district is Gadebusch Castle in Gadebusch: the Renaissance castle dates from 1573 and is considered a rare example of Mecklenburg or North German Brick Gothic Renaissance architecture. Its features include reliefs in the regional Johann Albrecht style.
