Grammow on Lake Stassow
Accommodation in Grammow
Grammow can be explored through two local landmarks: the former manor park, which adjoins the village centre, and Lake Stassow near Alt Stassow. The lake is a popular local recreation area for the municipality. This gives you two distinct focuses for planning your trip: the village centre and park on the one hand, and the lakeshore landscape and bathing facilities on the other.
Lake Stassow: bathing facilities and lakeshore landscape
The lake lies southwest of the district of Alt Stassow in the municipality of Grammow; the access road is signposted in Alt Stassow. Lake Stassow has a beach, a bathing jetty and a sunbathing lawn. The large sunbathing lawn invites you to linger; the bathing jetty was renovated in 2006.
The lake extends about 410 metres from north to south and about 270 metres from west to east. It is therefore longer from north to south. The lake’s northern shore is marshy, adding a distinctive landscape feature to the lakeside setting.
Village centre and activities nearby
The former manor park adjoins the village centre of Grammow, making it a different point of interest from Lake Stassow near Alt Stassow. The old oak avenue and the Recknitz Valley, in the area around Grammow, are suitable for hiking and nature watching. This gives you a choice of different activity focuses: bathing facilities at the lake, as well as hiking and nature watching nearby.
Grammow in the wider Rostock destination
The wider Rostock destination provides a regional context. The Rostock region includes 62 kilometres of Baltic Sea coastline with a number of seaside resorts; the coastal hinterland includes the river valleys of the Warnow and Recknitz. A different natural landscape is found in Sternberg Lake District Nature Park, with deeply incised breakthrough valleys along the Warnow, numerous lakes, picturesque hills and extensive forests. The park is especially well suited to hiking and cycling.
Nature watching is also one of the region’s attractions: discovery tours to see beavers, wolves and white-tailed eagles are available in Sternberg Lake District, Nossentiner/Schwinzer Heath, Mecklenburg Switzerland and Kummerow Lake nature parks, as well as at Wildpark-MV. Visitors can explore the park independently or join guided wolf, owl and evening walks.
For culture and technology, one highlight is the historic Molli narrow-gauge railway. It runs between Kühlungsborn and Bad Doberan, has a track gauge of 900 millimetres and has shaped the appearance of the Baltic Sea coast since 1886. In Linstow, the Wolhynian Resettler Museum offers guided tours for groups and individuals. Using ethnographic objects, photographs and documents, the tours tell the story of the Volhynian Germans from the mid-19th century until their resettlement in Mecklenburg after the Second World War.
