Anyone looking for a hotel in Heiligenhagen can plan their stay around specific interests. The village church combines historic architectural forms with a richly layered interior; a hiking route can also begin in Heiligenhagen. The war memorial on HauptstraĂźe provides another historical point of reference.

Village Church: Building and Architecture

The Heiligenhagen village church is the oldest surviving building in the village. It is a single-nave Gothic church, built from around 1300 onwards. It is constructed from granite boulders. Its wooden west tower was built in 1692. The approximate construction period and the year the tower was built provide different points of reference in time. Both the nave and the chancel have rib vaults. The terms describe different aspects: single-nave refers to the floor plan, Gothic to the architectural classification, while the rib vaults describe the design of the nave and chancel.

Altar, Paintings, and Pulpit

Painted decoration from the time the church was built has survived inside. The altar, dating to around 1450, depicts a Madonna on a crescent moon flanked by four saints; the four Evangelists are shown on the wings. The pulpit also features this motif: it dates from 1677 and depicts the four Evangelists as well as the Crucifixion. The comparison reveals the recurring Evangelist motif on both the altar wings and the pulpit, while the altar and pulpit have different historical dates.

War Memorial and Possible Hiking Route

The war memorial on Hauptstraße is another historical point of reference in the village. The “Heiligenhagen – Hohen Luckow – Satow – Heiligenhagen” hiking route can begin at an unpaved parking area by the roadside in Heiligenhagen. Conditions may vary; if you include this possible starting point in your tour plans, check the local situation before setting off.
