Glowe offers several points to consider when planning a stay: a fine-grained sandy beach with a promenade, a rocky stretch of coast east of the harbor, and cultural sites in the districts of Bobbin and Spyker. There are also signposted hiking routes and destinations along the cycling and hiking trail network. This allows you to decide more precisely whether the beach, outdoor activities, or historic architecture should be the main focus of your trip.

Sandy Beach, Shoreline and Promenade

The fine-grained sandy beach stretches from the harbor along the promenade to beyond the Kurplatz. It is about 1,300 meters long and has 13 beach access points. The section in front of the harbor, at access points 1 to 4, is suitable for families with children; the natural current makes the water’s edge particularly shallow there. There is also a beach volleyball court at beach access point 2.

The promenade, about one kilometer long, runs between the Kurplatz and Cape Königshörn. From sun terraces or benches, you can look out over the Baltic Sea as far as Cape Arkona. The promenade route and the view toward Cape Arkona are therefore two distinct landmarks to orient yourself during your coastal stay.

East of the harbor, a rocky beach with an adjacent high shoreline begins. It serves as a starting point for long beach walks and discovery tours. Unlike the fine-grained sandy beach, this stretch is characterized by rocks and a high shoreline; each coastal area therefore has its own character for a walk. The Glowe waterway rest area is located close to the small Cape Königshörn, opposite Cape Arkona. At the harbor building, an approximately seven-meter-high observation tower offers panoramic views across the entire bay.

Kurpark and Hiking Routes

The Kurpark is located directly above Glowe’s rocky beach. It is distinguished by numerous stone sculptures by the artist Mile Prerad. There are also 12 outdoor fitness machines where adults of all ages can exercise. The sculptures and fitness equipment bring different elements to the park: art and exercise.

There are seven signposted hiking routes in Glowe, ranging from 5.9 to 8.2 kilometers in length. This range makes it possible to compare the routes by distance. If you would like to combine a hike with a cultural destination, you can consider the castle complex in the district of Spyker as a stop along the way. It is a popular stop for hikers and cyclists on Glowe’s cycling and hiking trail network.

Church and Castle in the Districts

The Gothic St. Pauli Church stands in Bobbin. It was built from fieldstone around 1400 and is the only surviving fieldstone church on the island of Rügen. In Spyker, the castle complex was once the residence of the Swedish field marshal Gustav von Wrangel. It was first mentioned in 1318 and is designed in the Renaissance style. The church and the castle thus represent different architectural styles and historical associations in Glowe’s districts.
